Having just been in a 996 with the factory supplied PCCM+ system i now wonder when the same will be available for our 997.I realise all the semi-conductors are being used up in Taycan's but they still supply the system for the 996. I believe these are a Chinese made system using Chinese tech so does anybody know when we can finally get out of all the retro fun on the existing system?.

For me personally i'm not bothered about the money saving and functions i don't use, we only have it switched to Radio 4, id just like good sat nav graphic's and an OEM dash as the car is factory stock spec.
But yeah i get the point i could probably get a better after market system and a OEM looking dash insert and nobody except me would ever know it was'nt factory fit anyway.

I want to keep also the trip info and sport chrono readouts currently on my 997 standard system which i can work through my steering wheel controls.
Would the aftermarket systems currently available retain all the functions of my stock interface ?.
That would be a deal breaker for me if an upgrade couldn't interact with ,my sport chrono.

Mr JWW seemed to have bought one of the 997 PCCM+ for his 997 on an episode of youtube where he drives his new Turbo Cabriolet . Are they out now ??.

Strasse in Leeds tell me it should be available soon and they will be able to fit it with warranty.
I think the main reason i will go for this over other options is the bit below>>

>>>>Depending on the equipment in your vehicle, the functions of the multifunction steering wheel or the individual memory function for storing personal vehicle settings are supported. Other functions include the trip computer with lots of useful driving data and onboard navigation with Porsche-specific points of interest (POI) with route guidance in 2D or 3D. Viewing the navigation in the multifunction display of your vehicle is also made possible.

I like the idea of keeping all the functionality of the car systems. I will regret the disappearance of a single slot CDplayer though so may need to add a multi disc to the frunk. I don't play music off my phone. The sat nav upgrade will be a huge bonus though.

Potentially this is a game changer for me. I am thinking of buying one of the last petrol engined Boxsters before electrification but may now either keep the 911S or buy a 997 cabriolet equipped with this newer tech. A much cheaper option than a new car. I dont want to seem soft but my 991.2 was basically too fast and too fat for Derbyshire, but its interaction with technology has been missed a little.

My Jurys out til i see it in flesh. I agree the port in the front is silly.
Could it be the grand plans for this was scaled back when the semi-conductor chip crisis came along. I mean with this set up they used steam technology.
I really like the data system linked to my steering wheel controls and the upgraded graphics of the sat nav in 3D will be a big bonus for touring, especially as i can alter functions with my steering wheel.
Will i spend two grand on it?. possibly, the system i have now isn't cutting it. i mainly listen to radio 4 and podcasts or catch-up about architecture or ancient history. This isn't the great leap forward i hoped for but may just be worth purchasing if i can try a demonstrator.
Its VW generic technology from last generation made in China.
All their stuff is a bit crap since they stopped using Bosch for their info systems and went in house.
Will it work with my Bose?. I dont want to downgrade Hendrix's solo on Little Wing.

i didn't say the Bose was that good , Neither is the Bower and Wilkins my sister has.
although i haven't heard the standard sound in 997. I can hear the two bass bins behind me when i play NWA or Ice T, not sure if they're world class but certainly loud enough for the job in low range.
I mainly play vinyl at home with a huge sound band width between bass and treble.

The single slot CD player in my facia gives a fairly decent sound quality but nowhere near the clarity of vinyl. Playing sound streamed /blue toothed from my daughters phone is so ghastly i find it narrow in adjustability, too loud in top range and like a digital photo with low pixels. My daughter has recently had to agree in a taste test that vinyl at low volume made her Apple blue tooth system sound like the weedy kid at school.

So i would question the amount of data your phone was supplying to the Bose. possibly a system designed for shop bought factory CD's.

Well regardless of whether its the best solution and clearly is isnt optimal, will it be the upgrade that allows me to keep campaigning a 997 with hydraulic steering and no turbo's for a bit longer?. I think it might just be the cabin candy that will keep 997's in Porsches sweet spot.

I also would hazard that this system fitted to dealer sold 997.1's and Boxsters will attract new buyers to this market who also own brand new cars with latest tech.

I completely understand some of the alternatives suggested here but if i went into a Porsche specialist in my new Range Rover looking to buy a fun car to tour Europe i wouldn't be impressed with a vent mounted system or an aftermarket screen. on the other hand the official system would give me confidence my car was being supported by Porsche going forward.

I have'nt tried it yet , it could be crap but i hope it would add some value to my car if i splurge out. I also quite like the Porsche logo printed on the front, good in case i forget which of my cars i'm in.

Seems bizarre to say I'd buy a sub-prime option PCCM+ and then void warranty by moving the USB port to add a bluetooth dongle to make it half the system it should be in first place. Especially when there are better options already posted on this thread.
I guess that makes me a Porsche fan boy. A bit like those apologists for Elon Musk who defend every daft tweet.
i suppose its the same with wheels, i desperately want to fit 19" BBS wheels but would lay awake in bed at night worrying my spec wasnt OEM any more. Generally i'm game for anything in life but 911's are a bit of an illness.

I think this is rebranded Chinese tech from last generation. I'm fairly sure i read that Bosch supplied all Porsche systems until VW group decided to make their own infotainment rigs in China to fit all VW group products.

Regardless the sat nav graphics upgrade and touchscreen for podcasts will probably be ok for giving me the things i need in a modern format and frankly the current sat nav takes about an hour to programme and often thinks its driving across open fields like the Paris Dakar 959!

I'm having one fitted in March.
The decider was the functionality of the interface with my car. The wheel mounted controls still enable me to use options like trip mileage and average speed and consumption. i can change light delay for lights and other items that would be lost with an aftermarket system.
I think also the new sat nav in the PCCM+ is linked to my central tacho so if I'm concentrating on driving the little direction arrow and distance warning are nice to have.
i have spoke to Strasse Leeds and so long as the item is available I will add it to my annual service.

Just had my PCCM head unit fitted at Strasse Porsche in Leeds.
great and tidy job, microphone hidden away for telephone and no misalignment of trim or signs of disturbed A pillars.
Super happy with looks on first impressions after pickup. Very simple to connect my phone via Bluetooth or cable. The clarity of the screen is bright and vibrant, all in all I am glad I chose the Porsche unit. The steering wheel controls and smaller screens on dial work with the new system.
The Porsche sat nav is ok but not 2023, i use google maps via my phone which mirrors on the screen and i can see that I would only use their system if my phone wasn't available.
Bose still works fine, having a large selection of digital channels means i can finally listen to Times Radio and BBC Radio six when there's nothing on Radio 4.
The car section gives me trip info and basic data from the car.
It has transformed the way the 997 feels to use It now has all the things i need in a decent package that doesn't feel like I've compromised down from a 991..So far so good. We will see if the love affair continues.
I could have saved money by taking a non Porsche product but so far the value added feels ok for the costs.

I had a professional install as the ripping apart of the interior to fit the aerials and wires is easier on the second try. Didnt really want to use my car as a dry run.
Porsche advises you fit the microphone on top of the steering column housing but dealer hid it behind which I wouldn't have thought of.
Honestly plugging in a cable is easy and no idea why Bluetooth music would be a deal breaker. My phone auto connects to bluetooth for some functions and as i really only listen to radio 4 I don't need to plug it in at all.
The job was a couple of hundred plus vat and took about 4 hours to do. The old unit is saved in the PCCM box in case somebody in 2043 wants an OEM car again.
Best bit is i can configure stuff like auto wipers and courtesy lights etc through settings in PCCM. Or play the whole Beatles back catalogue through a USB stick, keep that in ashtray and no need to connect my phone via cable.
