I know Parr have done a Turbo conversion on a later Cayman, but it's about £12,000.

Anyone done anything like that but a bit cheaper?

cheers,

You've got it - Zingy is what I want, although I find it hard to describe in words.

Wife has a 986 Boxster 3.2S and it feels lovely and light and responsive on the throttle, unlike any of my previous 993's, but it could do with a bit more power.

I drove a 997.C2S and a 996 GT2 and they felt very Zingy.

So I wondered if I could get a bit more Zing out of a Cayman 2.7 by maybe turbocharging?

SLK55 is all wrong for me. Way too heavy. I want to touch the throttle and go back in the seat.

I see what you mean, yes. A 2.7 might be fine when I come to test drive one. I don't have the funds for Gen 2 or much of a slush fund if the 3.4 goes pop.

I'm not tracking it or anything, I just like a bit of zip up the mountain roads when I need it. Sounds like turbocharging is out.

I think it's going to be a 2.7.

(I've just seen how much the road tax is on a 3.4)

I know what you mean. I had a Mazda MX5 1.6 and 2.0 litre sport that were like that. But I found them too tiring driving them like that all the time. They were a bit weedy on motorways too.

Mrs Kimbo's 3.2S Boxster is a nice drive but it's a Tip and I was thinking of chopping it in (don't tell her) for an early manual Cayman, but only if I could make it a bit more zingy, preferably with the 2.7 engine.

Don't you have an Impreza? How do you want your 'ideal car' to compare with that?
Yes I had an Impreza WRX, 2002. I mapped it to around 260 bhp. Nothing drastic.

It was the PERFECT car for me in terms of throttle response (is that the right words?) and Zippiness. It certainly didn't feel like a Turbo as the power was on right from the start, but very docile with a light clutch and steering.

One of the best cars I've owned actually, just a shame about the image.

Hey thanks Baz for that huge reply. All a bit over my head as you've probably gathered.
