Multifunction vs. SportDesign - Residual Values
Discussion
Hi Guys,
I have a Cayman S with a SportDesign wheel but I was thinking of getting it changed to a MF wheel for its volume control and programmable button (this is a 981 so the MF wheel didn't have paddleshifts) as I hate having to reach over to adjust the volume. I figured that I adjust the volume more often that I change gear.
The only concern I really had was, is this something that would affect the value of the car as I suppose to most people its like i'm downgrading my steering wheel?
Its not cheap to do, but on the plus side I also get a new steering wheel that isn't shiny

I would buy a secondhand MF wheel on ebay and swap it at an independant Porsche garage. Most people go the other direction so there are plenty of MF wheels available - I just sold mine on ebay for £100 (damn it, that's all I could get).
£100... ?! You're joking?!Blimey!
Sorry for the late reply
I've bagged one off eBay for £120 for my spec (careera red, PDK with sport plus and launch control) had to buy the indicator/wiper/cruise stalk set from OPC and my local OPC have agreed to fit and code for 1 hours labour. So its still just less than £500 altogether.
I should be able to get some better money for my SD wheel though hopefully. It might not end up that costly overall.
Edit: I forgot to add that my car originally came with the mf wheel from factory, so this may make it a lot easier to go from SD to MF (So basically the reverse of what they did previously). The first owner had changed it (going by the approximate date and mileage it was done at), I am owner number 3.

When you think about it the volume control is only an issue on a small proportion of the cars they sell - namely those build for UK with RHD.
The vast majority of Porsches are LHD and the volume control is conveniently close to the driver's right hand, rather than tucked away on the other side of the car and obstructed by the gear lever.....
Honestly, if I had the LHD version of the same car, I wouldn't care what steering wheel I had The vast majority of Porsches are LHD and the volume control is conveniently close to the driver's right hand, rather than tucked away on the other side of the car and obstructed by the gear lever.....

Personally I wouldn't, but the rest of the motoring industry realised long ago that a MF wheel should be a given in almost any car - certainly one above the Dacia level - and that a "serious" car sporting a dual clutch gearbox ought to have flappy paddles as standard. Until the 718 you couldn't have both - and either was an extra. Thankfully market forces have just about dragged Porsche (or their marketing dept) into the 21st century with the 718.
I've sent TechArt and email to see how much their paddles cost for the multifunction wheel. Then I will have the best of both. - Depending on price of course!!

When I looked into this in 2014 (I had the same "best of both worlds" thought) I seem to recall the TechArt paddles had been discontinued. Have they started making them again?
Let us know as others may be interested.
Can you PM me your email address? I'll forward you the email that I got from themLet us know as others may be interested.
In short I was told that yes they do do them and that they have 2 fitters; one in London and one up north.
