Anyone else regretting that they got or didn't get anything for their new 718? I love everything about mine, but there are a couple of things I might have changed with hindsight, one of which I wish I could have had, but was not readily available.

Sports Chrono. I have no interest in a stop watch on the dashboard, but I like the blipper (rev matching), and I especially like having the sports setting on the PSM rather than just on or off. Should I have got it? Not sure I like it as much as £1271, but I'm wondering what I'll do if I go through the same exercise in a few years' time.

Standard plastic and Alcantara interior. Love the seats, perfect for me, and I am fine with manual adjustment. But what I didn't think about was the new car smell. Just not the same without leather in the mix. I wish they did leather bolsters with Alcantara centres, if only for that reason. Another one to think about in case there's a next time - glad I got the carbon dash inserts though.

Although I have chosen a slightly unusual spec, I'm really happy with everything else so far, particularly manual box and 18" wheels. Who else thinks they might have a bit of "spec remorse" going on?

Neil,

I got PASM and PTV, and I'm really glad I got both. Still getting used to PTV, and because the engine isn't run in yet I still don't really know what the mech LSD is capable of on the way out of corners. On the way in it really tucks the nose in, with minimal steering input, and in a very reassuring way. Never tried it at PEC Silverstone, might have to ask if I can go back with my new car and have a play.

Like you I haven't experimented with PASM in sport mode much yet, but the lower ride height just looks better. With most cars I've tried, sports suspension settings tend to be a bumpier ride for going not much more quickly, if at all, but from PEC experiences I think Porsche have achieved something a bit better.

As far as I understand, if you go for standard seats with leather package, they change the seat centres to leather, but the side bolsters are still vinyl. Alcantara and leatherette appealed more to me than leather and leatherette. If you want full leather seats, then it appeared to me you had to have sports seats plus, and I actually find the standard seats a little more comfortable across the shoulders.

It also occurred to me that the electric seats must be carrying a fair weight in additional motors, and because I tend to be the only person that drives my car, the motors would essentially be dead weight.

Not sure if any of that counts as advice, but some thoughts anyway!

The car doesn't have Sports Chrono but does have a "Sport" button....anyone care to enlighten me ?

The PSE seems to have three modes...off...on via the PSE switch and then when I put it in Sports mode....the volume gets turned up another notch with some fairly artificial noises on the over run.
Not artificial noises, but "boost enhancement", or anti-lag. The engine is using a controlled misfire to keep the throttle open a little further on the way into corners without pushing on. It works extremely well, but you only notice it when you want really sharp response, which for is really not on the road.

In a manual car, and without Sports Chrono or PSE, I have found it really hard to fathom what I'm getting from hitting the "Sport" button. Idle speed goes up a little, auto stop-start turns off, that seems to be about it. Maybe I'll notice something more in response once the engine is run in and I'm using a few more revs, but for now it seems to have little purpose.

Mine is manual, no PSE etc - with Sport button on you can notice more urgency in throttle response (particularly if you are trying to clutch control in traffic and it is more jumpy) but also if you accelerate hard, change gear quick you get a "backfire" loud bang/crackle . Also when you lift off throttle it makes a low burble. All quite childish and more fun in town with the windows open - noiser effects when engine is cold than warmed up
Ooh. Sounds like I've got some things to look forward to once run in. Thanks!

Hi Liam, glad to hear you're enjoying the car, just wondering if you found the PTV makes a notable difference at road legal speeds? And if it counteracts any increased understeer from having the 18" wheels?
Am planning a very similar spec to you!
Hmm... Either it makes a difference at moderate(ish wink) speeds, or the 18" wheels and tyres are less susceptible to understeer than the 19" and 20" wheel cars I have driven up to now. Very happy with wheel choice, but I'd love to know how hard PTV is having to work on the way into corners. If I'm honest I think it's just easier to work the front tyres a little harder with taller sidewalls when driving on public roads. It doesn't feel like it understeers badly unless you try to induce it. Let me get it run in, and get used to it properly, and I'm guessing I'm going to say I like the "fiddle braking" aspect, although I didn't particularly want it

LSD (the bit I did want) is remarkably refined, but definitely there. Firing it off a wet roundabout or 3 with PSM off is very much as I'd hoped, but less of the snap oversteer I got used to correcting with Salisbury and Quaife diffs in the dim and distant.

Oh and finally, didn't particularly want PASM, but couldn't have PTV without having that as well. It's really good, I'd spec it next time, definitely adapts on both settings!
