OK, I've only had it for five days, but my 718 Cayman is an amazing car that I cannot get enough of. It's my first Porsche, and it will not be my last. It's enjoyable at any speed, the manual gearbox is by far the best I've ever experienced, the quality of the engineering seeps out of its pores and it sounds wonderful. The whole experience is just so exciting.

The novelty factor will inevitably diminish in time, but I completely understand the passion for these cars.

The weather has been so dismal that I haven't taken any fresh pics since the morning I picked it up, but I thought you might like to see the snaps from about 0730 last Thursday when I battled through the Giant Snowb@stard to get to the dealer. They made it feel like a very special occasion. The sales exec had the sign laminated and it's now stuck to my fridge door.

I was in Leicester OPC today for some sundry parts for my 996 and was sat in the showroom for a while next to a cayman and they are stunningly beautiful. It did make me feel like being in the toy shop as a kid!
Think you've nailed it there - whatever it is that makes toys so special as a kid is distilled and concentrated into the car smile

Funnily enough, someone at work asked if I was trying to relive my childhood and having a midlife crisis. I said no, it would be a crisis if I was driving a clapped-out people carrier.

Hey thanks for all the kind words folks.

The roads have largely dried out round here, and I’ve been out all day. The handling and pace of the car are of such a higher order than anything else I’ve experienced. I love this car.

Now the roads have dried out a bit I’m actually working from home tomorrow so I can go on a lunchtime hoon without getting stuck in the commuter traffic.

Can’t wait biggrin

Are you being a good boy and not exceeding 4K RPM for the first 1000 miles?
Erm.... not exactly... smile

The dealer was adamant I didn’t need to worry about it, despite what the book says. I’ve been letting it warm up and have avoided really caning it, but I’ve been extending it beyond 4k.

You enjoying your first Porsche as much as I am?
