Hello all, new to the forum!

Collected my Dec 17, 718 Cayman at the end of September from an OPC. Car was bought with 3,500 miles and now sitting at 5,000. Originally, I was going for a 2015 981 2.7, however that fell through and ended up in a 718.

This is my first Porsche, I have previously owned an M235i, Golf R32 and an E46 M3.

Purchased from an OPC, details below :

Cayman 718 2.0
Guards Red
Manual
20inch carrera sport alloys
Sports exhaust in silver
Sports Chrono
PASM
GT sport steering wheel in leather
PCM with Apple CarPlay as per later cars

A fairly light spec but had all the 4 options that were ‘must-haves’ for me. However some things I would have liked:

Folding mirrors
PDC
Bose
Heated seats (around this time of year)
Auto wipers
Dual climate control

Have had autos for the last 4 years, however was open to manual/PDK. Only do around 8k per year and I do think the manual box suits the car.

Some thoughts on the car 1500 miles in:

Positives

Car feels as fast as my M235i (325bhp and 325 ft lb torque). The BMW is a good 150kg heavier which is probably why.

I think it looks stunning from all angles and I just love Guards Red!

Car is beautifully weighted and once the P-Zero’s are up to temperature, grips and handles incredibly well.

Rides surprisingly well with 20’s and PASM, quite happy doing longer journeys in it.

More economical than expected, have seen 40+mpg on slower motorways journeys.

The slow-slung driving position makes it feel like an event every time I drive it (even slowly) a criticism of my M235I.

Some Negatives

Even with sports exhaust, I am not impressed by the sound. I am aware it is much louder from the outside but it really doesn’t compare with my M235i. It is not half as bad as people make out however, doesn’t compete with my previous cars!

The grinding when manoeuvring at slow speeds. Hard to believe this is ‘normal’.

Occasionally the car will not connect to Apple Carplay, even when I disconnect and reconnect my device.

Drivers window squeaks when dropping - must get this seen to.

Overall I am delighted with the car and enjoying Porsche ownership. Enough rambling, some pictures below...

Thanks for the replies. In hindsight, grinding probably wasn’t the best description. It is the Ackerman effect as mentioned.

For any of you with PSE, do you find that exhaust note is very muted from inside the car? Friends/colleagues have commented about the pops/bangs/cracks when they have heard it from the outside. I can barely hear it from the inside.

Will absolutely be changing the Pirelli’s for Michelin’s. Always had Michelin’s and found them to be outstanding.

How quickly do you think I will get through a set? I would say they have quite an easy life with me driving.

I think if you click on the pic, you can scroll through them? Certainly I can.

Having driven a 981 with PSE, they do sound great.
