Hi,

Going to view a 718 Boxter S tomorrow and wondered if they was anything particular to look out for?

The car is fairly high on the miles 45k but seems reasonably priced for an S?

I plan to use it as a daily driver and do circa. 10k per annum, I would hope it would get 30mpg on a run being a 4 cylinder or is that unrealistic?

The car itself will be on PCP I have been offered £2k down and circa £450pm over 4 years which seems reasonable with a balloon of £13k which again seems decent.

No leather dashboard or door trim. For that amount of money I would expect a much higher sense of occasion and a luxury cabin. But if all the plastic trim doesn't bother you then it looks nice.
I gather that but I suppose at this money I cant be too picky in terms of options? Well specified cars are over £40k and this at least has nav and parking sensors

Deal seems good to me. I wouldn’t expect any equity through the term based on those numbers but if you intend to keep for 4 years it’s no bother. I personally wouldn’t run one without warranty and will be extending mine when it expires but I’m fairly risk averse.

My car is a base manual but MPG as follows:

Driving to and from work, quite a bit of stop/start and rarely over 40MPH = 24-28 MPG

Relaxed motorway journey ~70-75MPH can get up to about 44MPG with a very easy right foot.
Thanks a lot, that MPG sounds ok... I was getting less out of my 2019 S60 T5 on a run!

Is reliability an issue on these engines then? That was my only other worry really...

In terms of equity no, but I would hope say after 2 years I could get rid if so chucked £3k in or so if I did get bored...

Thanks for the comments all around specification. It depends what cars you are used too I am in a new shape 320d M Sport currently so it will be interesting to see if it feels plasticity in comparison or not...

I have been allowed a test drive so can hopefully see what the fuel consumption is like with my driving style and see what it comes out at.

I saw the car linked but it was £4k more and a private sale and I plan to use PCP rather than buy with cash.

Never driven one before but strangely just got in my car and a 16 plate boxter s was parked next to me and started up and to me it sounded quite nice I suppose it's a case of what you are used too...

The options I would have liked was an LSD and a sport exhaust which I don't believe this example has and is my only sticking point at the moment. I didn't expect to yet a boxter s for £32k though so if I decide it's not the spec for me I may need to hang back a few months and pick one up in winter when convertibles are not as deseriable.

Well I have had the test drive...

I had mixed impressions in all honesty, I did not feel the interior was low quality at all the only thing was the indicator stalks felt a bit cheap and flimsy next to the 3 series I am driving but the plastic dash etc. did not bother me at all.

The car itself had some decent options such as parking sensors, wireless charger & nav etc. and had everything I needed but did not have sports chrono pack or an LSD.

In terms of speed it seemed very quick to me and was certainly plenty fast enough for a road car, I felt the sound was ok but it reminded me more of something like a DSG Golf R crossed with a Subaru in terms of the noise and how it accelerated i.e. quick gear shifts and pops and bangs etc.

I did like the car but something about it didn't seem right for me to commit and I think I need to sleep on it. I am 6 foot 3 and pretty well built and did feel like I looked a bit silly sat in a small car as the wind was blowing my hair all over the shop with the roof down but its probably more due to the fact I sold my last convertible 2 years ago and have been driving saloons/4x4s since then.

The car handled lovely and rode well considering it was on 20" wheels, if anything it seemed to take bumps better than the 320d I am in currently on 19s!

Personally I think I expected to sit in it and feel special and that did not really happen but it was no doubt a very capable car and considering I will be using it daily I may need to accept that.

That is because unless the cabin has the extended leather ,stitched leather, alcantera galore (and all that stuff) then 'it' doesn't feel special. Therefore 'you' won't feel special. Go sit in one with a more luxurious cabin and you will eat your words of "I did not feel the interior was low quality at all". That is the contradiction in your review/feedback, and the crux of the matter.

Hi, the special comment was with regards to the overall package rather than interior. I was paying for more attention to how the car drive than the interior as extras such as a leather dash etc. would be lost on me.

As long as I have Nav, Sensors and a decent stereo in a car I am not fussed I was driving round in a 2020 Range Rover Autiobgraphy and never really noticed the nice materials despite it being a £100k car.

I accept for other buyers it could be a major sticking point however!

Have ya considered a 981? - should be able to find a reasonable spec one in budget - plus get the flat 6
They actually work out a lot more on PCP for some reason when I have looked before...

They do sound a lot nicer though which may make them feel more special, I need to try one really!

In terms of an update I think I will be going for an electric company car (Tesla 3 or Polestar 2) waiting 6 months and then looking at getting a toy instead of trying to compromise with one vehicle as I had been. This means the budget will probably drop to circa £20-£25k but I can maybe consider something more special now it will be having less mileage put on it as I tend to do 12k per annum for work/business.

If I go for the Tesla it will be the standard model as I am concerned if I pay extra on top of my allowance to upgrade to the performance then it will make whatever toy I get seem very slow and I still want it to feel special.

It also means I can probably stick 50% down as a deposit rather than a small amount I was going to do now so it makes a lot more sense all round upon reflection.

Its a nice car but its priced accordingly... The one I saw was £8k less after negotiation!

I have asked the local Porsche dealer to quote me on the below out of interest more than anything
