I know it's a long shot but I'm looking for my late fathers 944 which he bought new in 1984 from Monarch in Warwick, registration A944 HVC.

It's currently on SORN and MOT'd somewhere and I'd love to find it and if at all possible buy it back (or at the very least go and see it). Dad would have been 100 in just under 2 years and if at all possible I'd love to have the car restored and ready to celebrate that.....I know it's sentimental but I don't care

Anyone who either owns or knows who owns it, if you could get in touch I'd be incredibly grateful.

Photo is of the day it was picked up from the dealer

Good luck with the hunt - Dad would have bought the car in 1984 not 1994?

I think what you are doing is utterly wonderful.
You're indeed correct - it was 1984....senior moment on my part! eek

Good luck with the search and hope you find it.

May be worth posting on PCGB and TIPEC in case you haven't already.
yes I've already got it on TIPEC but the PCGB forum is members only I think and I haven't been a member for a while after selling my 968

Hi Gordon,
there's a post on pcgb now but no positive replies. The car is a cov plate which is slightly odd for a warwick car, no?
Anyway I hope you can find it
I see you are waay up north now, when did that happen? 21 still going strong if not used that much
David
Hi David,

A member on TIPEC said he'd post it onto PCGB for me so nice to see he has...I'll post on there to say thanks smile

When dad ordered the car from Monarch (salesman was an Alex Buchanan) as a 13 year old kid I was cheeky and said something along the lines of 'it would be nice if it had a 944 plate on it when it was registered' and that's what they managed to do - no charge smile

We moved up to the Highlands 6 years ago but only built a proper garage about 14 months ago, so for almost 5 years various toys were lodging with friends and family. The 21 is safely up here now although it hasn't been used much this year....hoping 2021 will be a better year!.

How are things with you?

Have you tried using a V888 form to request details from DVLA?

Only costs £5, be honest why you want the information.

Worth a try for a fiver.
My understanding is that 'wanting to find my your old car' isn't an acceptable reason....muight as you say be worth a £5 punt though!

I do have the original purchase order and the sales invoice somewhere in a family paperwork archive....could say it might be of interest to current owner for history of his car....

Surely Monarch would have used the nearest local DVLA office (Coventry ?) to license/register their cars back then ?Geographically Warwick & Coventry are what ? 5-6 miles apart ?
Just mentioned on my reply to David why the plate is a bit 'odd'

Like you I used to love looking at the showroom as we drove past, one day I managed to persuade dad to stop so we could go in......when we got home afterwards he had to confess to my mum that he'd just ordered a new Porsche biggrin

Warwickshire had its own set of reg codes WD, NX etc and as county town I assume Warwick/Leamington would use these rather than the Cov ones, VC, HP, DU etc. Mind you I thought AC was a Cov no but it seems that was for the county not the city.
Not that it really matters.
Gordon, I'm intrigued, did you drive the 21 to the Highlands, (and/or the 7 for that matter)? Must have been quite a trip.
As it's a shorter journey from the old house to the Nurburgring than it is to where we are now I admit I took the easy option.....

The 7 came up on a hired trailer but the 21 got the full royal treatment when I borrowed Dave F's RS2 smile

Just a quick update - and thread bump wink I sent off 2 versions of the V888 (2 different basis for requesting information on the car - 1 for current owner details to give him the history and the second just to confirm that A944HVC is still the same original car purchased by dad) but today I've had a letter rejecting both as not being permitted under their rules. Oh well.....back to relying on someone knowing the car / owner.....

Thread update - boring bit first - DVLA rejected both requests as not valid.....

Less boring bit - A944HVC has been found!!!! biggrin

Courtesy of some help on a 944 group I tracked down the current owner and all going well once lockdowns are over I'll be going to see it with a view to buying it back!

Great news Gordon, congratulations on a successful search. Definitely pics please.
On a separate note 21 had it's first run of the year. At least it still works!
Glad you've had the 21 out, I'll get Kate's out when the weather improves up here.

The 944 needs work, mechanically good but cosmetically it needs various trim bits, the correct offset wheels and will need a respray....plenty of time to do bits now it's back in the family

Well done
Looks like your dad's car had cookie cutters on it and now sits on teledials?
Changing them back will correct the offset. The teledials may be from a 924S hence not filling the arches.
Get the cam belt and tensioners done ASAP if it's had little use recently, a snapped belt is terminal on these. Also worth checking all the drain holes, water collects in the battery tray and leaks through to cause mischief in the electrics.
Thanks for the comment

I'm probably going 16" Fuchs (copies) instead of as you say the wrong offset teledials - 16" has a better choice of rubber.

The belts have been replaced in last 12 months by the previous owner so should be ok.

Re the battery drains - another job on my list but it's very unlikely to see rain for a while biggrin

You didn't happen to find it in West Lothian did you? I'm 99% sure I saw this in a local street I'm not normally in about a month ago.

Put it this way if you hadnt already found it I would've been sending you the address to contact them!
It wasn't in West Lothian, a bit further north in Arbroath.

It will have been a different car - A944HVC was off the road and under armed guard on an MOD base until it had it's MOT on 16th April. Interesting experience having to be cleared by soldiers with assualt rifles to collect a car biggrin
