2022 Macan GTS
Discussion
I posted this in General Gassing, but probably best here:
Hi All
I test drove a 2022 Macan GTS yesterday and was left with a few questions, that perhaps someone who owns one could answer?
Some of them may be a consequence of living with my other cars, the majority of which are large capacity V8, V10 compared with a 2.9V6?
1. It was an horrendous day in terms of the weather, and I was left surprised with the amount of wheel spin, when pulling out of junctions. I know it has "torque vectoring" but I was still surprised to hear rear wheels spinning compared to my B8 RS4 in similar conditions.
2. We made the mistake of thinking that we could "waft along" with minimal gear changing, especially it being a turbo engine, but again were surprised by the amount of auto down shifting to maintain a constant speed on hills etc. Once we realised, winding the engine up brought the car alive, but it felt a bit "forced". The test car had c.300 miles from new, so maybe everything is a bit tight?
3. The Sports Exhaust when switched on was still close to silent....
The positives were:
- Ride quality
- Build quality
- Comfort of the 18-way seats (probably to be set on day one and never touched again! )
- The Dealer experience (yes, honest)
Anyway, I'd be grateful to hear any real world experience!
Thanks!

They're fast but often don't feel it in my view. Just wish Porsche made a 500bhp version.
.
Thanks for the feedback!.
Yes, 500bhp sounds about right. I'm not affiliated to Litchfield (apart from being a customer), but the 2.9V6 is pretty easy to push up:

Haven't got the new one yet, but we've never spun the wheels in our 2021 GTS, honestly it does sound unless the tyres are massively different to what they were before that you are driving somewhat hastily.
It definitely is not a sports car and from what you've said I don't think it's going to satisfy you.

Got to add here I only have the S model, but it has chrono & PSE so will tell you the exhaust definitely does make a significant difference.
To echo the comments above re the experience day, although I had a deposit & build when I visited I probably wasn't that excited initially, after all its a high-riding SUV and I was coming out of a 991. But after a full day of thrashing an S around the track(s) at PEC and passing pretty much everything out there, I could not wait to take delivery and have not been disappointed at all.
There's a world of difference between bumbling along in full auto mode, knocking it into Sport+ and pressing the M button on the wheel. Night and day.
Edit to add, I'm one of those people who fall into the 'not understanding why Macan etc.' but now a full convert. I'd happily be ordering another one right away if I was not trying to convince myself to get back into a 911.
Thank you - maybe it's a slow burn appeal rather than an immediate impact? More likely to love it in the long term then! Have test driven a few as a potential replacement for a 340D M sport touring. However, as I do a lot of miles the MPG is just too brutal for me to stomach. So have rolled over my build slot (and deposit) to an EV Macan instead and will see what that’s like. Mind you The big power beemer takes some beating as a daily hack espec on all weather rubber.
