Lovely car! Great location too - give me a wave if you see my LHD Cayman in Putney smile
Will do. Think I may have already seen you whilst pottering around in my 997. Can't remember where but you do not see many LHD Caymans around. May even have been on Monday when I popped down to Putney to buy the car.

If was Monday, it would have been at 5am on my way to Gatwick! Mine is the white one. Is your 997 a GTS?
nope I've see a black left hooker around town. Wasn't you!

Black black 1989 Carrera with sports seats. Thats about it I think and its an original panel car. Love at first sight! Been looking for the right car for about 2 years. Seen a lot of rust buckets in that time. For a black car its in amazingly tidy condition and most of the paint is original.

Actually its not quite my first air-cooled. Had a 1984 911 Turbo for a month or so but sold it as I couldn't get on with it (had a few white knuckle moments in it and thought God this is going to kill me if I'm not careful so got shot of it!!). Having a car for only a month doesn't count in my book. Its funny though I look at old turbos now and want one again!

Cheers. Saw two very nice Club Sports at the PH Breakfast meet today. Last of the breed these late cars. Just had to have one as when ever I walk past an old 911 can't help taking a second look!

Been pootling around in the old girl for the last three days enjoying the good weather. The old girl is an amazing drive and she really can lift her skirt up and fly when you want her to. Took my manual 997 turbo for a drive this evening. Its an amazing piece of kit but dull as dishwater by comparison.

The 89 car can easily still be used as a daily driver without any undue effort but I do not want to get salt all over her and ruin her. My Carrera only has 65,000 miles and original panels hence I do not want to use her too much in the winter apart from on sunny days like we have just had. The old girl is raw and literally feels alive, the steerings alive and very precise, the engine is a peach with a metallic flat six note (although nowhere nr as free revving as the 73 RS I took for a spin which made me go out and buy one of these as a poor mans substitute) and the old girl just looks soooooo cool on those 9 inch turbo fuchs at the back. Get your braking done in a straight line before you turn and gently get on the throttle early in a turn gradually feeding in more power through the bend and you will shoot out of the turn at an amazing lick with a massive grin on your face. Its a deeply satisfying driving experience. Best Christmas present I've ever had. I think my turbo may be jealous as the 997s been kicked out of the garage for a few days until I get the time to clear some junk out so I can have both of them in the garage!

If you are perhaps thinking about buying ones of these pls go and do it soon before all the nice ones disappear. 1984-1989 was a sweet spot in terms of engineering for the 911 in my view and with good cars being increasingly difficult to find nd pre impact bumper cars in the stratosphere these too may perhaps also soon be out of reach for enthusiasts who are seeking a rewarding car to drive. I'm not sure I'd ever sell this car it really is that good to drive.

wink

Are you sure you're not me? I have almost exactly the same combination - Discovery HSE, 1989 3.2 Carrera (flat back) and 997 GTS. Well it was close.
Ha! My Mrs has gone completely mad and ordered a GL63 for April delivery to replace the Disco (will keep Disco as my daily hack). I was sceptical about the GL but drove it and its surprisingly good - will need to buy an oil field mind.

Thanks Mark. I've not touched it yet but do plan to make it a bit more of a man cave when I have bit of time.

Treated the old girl to a wash and a polish today. She's been absolutely faultless and I'm always surprised by how rapid she is once in the zone above 4500 rpm. Sweaty palms after a blast down a give and take b road lol wink
