Looked at various cars over the last few months. Although I have looked at and nearly bought a Lambo G spider or a 430 spider, I think I really want a 458, but the cost was just outside my budget. Im not terribly fussy on spec (save it must be red or black car with black or cream/Sabia leather. Now that the summer is over the prices usually drop a little over the winter; when do they tend to hit the bottom? Ideally I'd buy privately. Im looking in the normal places and I've put a wanted advert up on here. Any other recommendations for places to look?

I looked at that car too. GP would have paid around 130 (advertised at 133 from memory) for it and they sold it for just under 150 (2011, red with crema carbon seats, 13k miles ish).

My concern was more related to the circumstances of the sale as the owner lived abroad, the v5 was in his fathers name and in Southampton and the car was stored at GP. It must have all been ok but it was too messy for me and i wasn't taking any risks with 130k.

As for the prices going up next year ... Those owning one have motive to talk the market up and those buying have motive to talk it down. Whichever side you fall there is little point discussing it as it is all guesswork.

My question was more from a historical point of view when does seasonal variation tend to hit the bottom? Oct/Nov/dec/Jan? Im pretty sure from march onwards prices are on the way back up?

£132500 was the advertised price when private. The private advert said 15k miles, which is close enough (I've still got the advert). Identical spec so im pretty sure its the same car.

After only a drip feed of cars coming on the market, an increased supply seems to be hitting the for sale pages this week. Might finally find want i want ...

IME there's next to no discount from main dealers on used approved cars. They are very clued up on what they can get for them.
Yup, found the same. I have looked at several cars from main dealer where they will not move at all on price and a few that will move by a tiny amount.

I don’t disagree. If money were no object I would buy a 488, but the extra 50k (£150k for 458 v £205k for 488) is too big a jump for me.

What do people think of the saleability of a low mileage red car that has a limited spec; literally just shields, chromatic mirrors, white stitching and painted callipers. How easy/hard to sell? What kind of price difference to a well specced car?

All the dealers and traders I've spoken to are saying 1 red, 2 black.

On a Ferrari I cant see any colour ever overtaking red personally.

Happy for people to talk red down though, because thats what I want! Lol

I was talking to a dealer who was changing both rear shocks on a 458 they were selling because one was leaking. Said it was 3k cost for the pair. Definitely something to have checked.

On the Brightside ... After selling my Porsche 997 Turbo in March and searching ever since I have finally bought a red 458 Italia with upgrade wheels, shields, colour callipers, carbon dash, led steering wheel, carbon bridge and carbon race seats. Literally my perfect spec. Now bring on Italy next June!

Thanks all!

Dealer pics are all I have at the moment. Should collect in about a week. Then the detailing begins!

I never thought about a leather/ Alcantara combination, but loved it when I saw it. I suspect the reason there aren’t many is down to the cost. The price list suggests it costs an extra £5063! Crazy price. That’s before you add all the other stuff on.

The alloys are crazy... an extra 4K over the standard wheels. Yet they are the same size!

No idea why people aren't having them rebuilt, but it must be worth looking into. I know people are doing it on the r8 Mag shocks because they are also expensive.

Im considering having it professionally detailed; Colchester or mobile recommendations welcome? What sort of price would you pay for detail and ceramic coating?

If I do it myself (dont worry, Ive done various Porsche, Ferrari and Astons before), what products does everyone recommend for wax and sealants?
