So jut sold my great 2007 Aston Martin Vantage, really loved it and it was a great car and very reliable.
The plan is/was to buy a Range Rover as we have just taken on a guide dog puppy and the Aston recently wasn't getting used and I cant see that changing in the next year.
However I now find myself with a work bonus also so naturally started to look on the classifieds and my Ferrari itch came back. My plan is to now just buy a Merc ML for say £20k and then get a Fez .
Question is, if you had £65k what would YOU buy for a newcomer to the brand? 360 seems the natural choice at this price point. HR Owen has a great looking one but I wouldnt know where to start when it comes to what to look out for etc.
Any tips/advice?
OR, just pay a £15k deposit and finance something for 2-3 years up to say £1200 a month?

Thanks for your replies so far .
I won’t ever be tracking it if i do get one , more road trips to nice towns and villages for a spot of lunch and then home again , maybe long weekends away etc .
I never considered the California before but they look decent but IMO a 360 Modena looks better . I just don’t know if my budget is enough for a “good” one .
There certainly seem enough around my price point so there must be a good one out there . I would get an inspection done for sure on any new potential purchase as i don’t know my way around Ferrari’s that well.

360s may not be up there with the modern stuff, but they are still great cars. Mine still impresses me every time I drive it - and I've owned it for almost 7 years.
Mine will actually be up for sale once it's had a service / MOT in March.
ETA : Just took a look at the HR Owen one - I guess you need to decide if you want F1 or manual, and whether you want a red one which seems common with first time Ferrari owners. My (manual, but not red) car will be advertised for less than that one.

Thanks all,
So many replies .
So regarding auto or manual that doesn’t really bother me right now . Nor does the colour bar yellow . So black or dark blue would be good too . Obviously red is iconic and probably easier to sell I’d imagine .
I’d been searching on here and also autotrader and there seem to be some options . I am minded to go with a 360 and get a good example as opposed to a slightly good 430.
Just finding the right one ! HR Owen seems decent enough from a post above it seems bar sticky buttons . I will also check the links provided above too .

I will be getting an independent report done regardless where I buy it from 🙂
So it seems i need to check out both , think i have watched all videos there are of 360s and 430s.
Being based up here in Edinburgh there is very little choice so i need to do my homework carefully to ensure I’m not making wasted trips .

Evening all.
Sorry for being a bit quiet on this, been so busy its unreal.
I have read every link posted my everyone here including the VERY informative guide to 360 and 430s. An amazing resource.
So I went into this pretty clear in my mind what I wanted, a red 360.
Now though I cant decide between a 360, 430 and even a California.
360
Childhood dream car, looks great, sounds great. It seems you can get a decent example on my budget for £65k. However they are approx 20yrs old and the inside defo gives that away a bit
430
I must say this looks great and can see why it was mentioned above. Slightly newer inside, looks amazing if not better than the 360 (maybe) but for a "decent" one I would probably need £70k. Sticky buttons seems annoying but no belts every 3 years to do unlike a 360.
California.
Never ever considered it, but the more i look at it , the more i like it. For £70k, even £65k, you can seem to get a good example, its much more modern tech inside and out and seem fairly robust cars. Unlike the cars above which I would be happy with other colours rather than just red, the California would defo have to be red, no other colour works for me.
So I am now at a point of trying to chose between the 3 and I think right now the F430 wins. Arrgghh, I just dont know.

I have to admit, the last post for me anyway, hits the nail on the head. Those two cars I would never buy even if they were dirt cheap. I think maybe £5k!
Anyway IM still undecided. I wont be doing anything until I hear about my current work situation in the next 2-3 weeks. If its all good, then ferarri time here we come.
But to all here, you all have been a great help. I am way more knowledgeable about the pitfalls of each car etc.

OP mentions at the start that he actually has 85k to spend, but plans to blow 20k of it on a Merc ML for transporting a guide dog puppy.
Radical thought, but what about dropping the 4x4 budget to 10k and spending the extra on the Ferrari? Must be loads of decent 4x4s for nearer 10k that would be perfectly suitable transport for a guide dog, and 75k would give you a lot more choice in the Ferrari market...
This made me laugh, love it.Radical thought, but what about dropping the 4x4 budget to 10k and spending the extra on the Ferrari? Must be loads of decent 4x4s for nearer 10k that would be perfectly suitable transport for a guide dog, and 75k would give you a lot more choice in the Ferrari market...
So I just spent £16k on a ML. Don't fret it wasn't just for the puppy but as our general all rounder car for the house. I love it, money well spent and its not too far removed from the range rover I used to have although i do still hanker after one. The wife is very happy with it so all is good here.
So I need to get my contract all sorted which will happen or not happen by the end of the month. If it does happen, roll on Ferrari time.
Anyone got info on this one ?

Seems a lot of car for the money. A bit old and the miles could be better but still only 40k.
