Ferrari new boy wanting to scratch an itch!
Discussion
Hi all
I've not posted here before as I have never owned a Ferrari, but @500 Miles has now made me consider this.
The only Italian metal I have owned was the Maserati GranTurismo when it was first launched (I loved it).
Other than that I have been fairly straight (Porsche, etc.) and currently have an Aston Martin DB9 and a Bentley Continental GT (and the obvious Range Rover!).
But whilst I am still clinging to my 40’s the Ferrari itch needs to be scratched.
I prefer the older models and whilst I realise that these can be money pits I would like something that is not going to be too heavy per mile (it will probably cover very small milage when rotated with my other cars) and not drop in value like a rock (I understand this is guesswork).
My initial thoughts are entry level cars to try the brand and take it from there, but equally to try and get it right first time.
So far I am looking at these:

https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
https://www.tfcgb.com/used-cars/10762558-ferrari-3...
Any thoughts or other ideas?
Editd to add this lovely 355 GTS!

Thanks guys, I would very much like a 355 GTS, but I think they are now very toppy price wise (but I was very wrong when I sold my 996 Turbo S for one third of what it would cost today, so what do I know! )
I think it is a toss up between the red and black 360's I linked to.
I think the black on looks less in-your-face, but I also think your first Ferrari should really be red!

I have never been a great fan of silver Ferraris or the interior of the 360 but that first one looks lovely
As a car I prefer the 355 but if your looking at the F1 gearbox then I believe the 360 variant was better
Red 360 is my least favourite of the ones you posted
328 is i would suggest going to be a lot more agricultural than the others. This may or may not be a good thing depending on what you are after. From memory the driving position is an acquired taste

I would agree.
At £10k cheaper I am bringing it back into play and the interior would suit a red wrap if needed,

Hi mate, trust you are well.It does look lovely, in fact my first choice would bee a 355 GTS, but I just think they are toppy price wise right now and I can justify paying nearly twice as much as for a 360.
Cheers

Stunning and in my neck of the woods too, but I have my heart set on something convertable as I don't have one of these anymore.Absolutely flawless and never let me down in six years.

‘It has never felt like an old car TO ME’ illustrates exactly the point I was making in my previous post. It simply IS an old car and how it feels to an individual will very much be relative to whatever else they are used to. Relative to a 348, no, it won’t feel old.
The OP is used to a DB9, a CGT and a Range Rover which whilst all may be relatively old now, are a very different drive and certainly will feel much more modern than a 360.
I bought my 360 knowing that it felt much older and more basic than the car it replaced, I’m not attacking the car or anyone who has one or wants one now.
Exactly. Whilst my RR is the new model my DB9 is now 15 years old.The OP is used to a DB9, a CGT and a Range Rover which whilst all may be relatively old now, are a very different drive and certainly will feel much more modern than a 360.

If I want to whaft around I have the Bentley and Range Rover (and my wife's RR Evoque, for that matter), for a more analouge GT/sports driving I have a old DB9 and soon a 360.
I am very aware neither of the latter have the tech of modern day cars, but that is also part of the appeal and why my other options would be a 355 GTS or 328 GTS.
The 360, though, seems to be a good entry point to me in terms of value.
I have also decided my first Ferrari should be a red one, so given how lovely the silver one is (and it really is) I've ended up putting a holding deposit on the red one.
KHPC have been very good and also offered (when I raised it) to re-upholstor the black roll bar hoops in crema, which I assume would look much better?
Cheers everyone!

Does anyone have any thoughts on the roll bar hoops, keeping them black or having them changed to crema (at no cost)?
Cheers

Hey Julian !
There are no bad choices here
Real differentiation from your contemporary flappy rides would be a 328 GTS. Mine was bulletproof and it's absence of electrickery means you can relax more. Just be mindful that you will get lots of attention and peeps wanting selfies with its exotic shape, which ultimately slows down your trip.
Ofcourse a 355 with Tubi has the best F1-esq soundtrack but can upset the local village.
Enjoy the process !

I quite agree!
KHPC also has a 328 GTS for £5k more than the 360, which is very empting...

At this point it would be quite easy to switch my holding deposit to their 328, but I think it might be wiser for me to start my Ferrari journey with their 360 Spider;

Any thoughts on this (and if I go continue with the 360, changing the black roll bar hoops to Crema)?
Cheers

Julian, Please be aware that the car is Rosso Scuderia and not Rosso Corsa. I would recommend that you view the car to be sure you like the colour. Rosso Corsa is easier to sell and more popular than Rosso Scuderia but that may not be an issue for you. Highly recommend KHPC.
Thank you. I have already raised this with them and they sent me a video of it outside in the sun (obviously I cannot travel to them at this point).I did worry that it may be a little bit orange in the flesh.
Any thoughts anyone?

By the way...
It would have to be one of these two:

Although have you considered a California. Hard top convertible is a real bonus.
My Aston Martin is silver and my Bentley is black. If I was letting one of them go then no problem, but I am not and therefore am looking for something different. It would have to be one of these two:

Obviously I love them both, as they made my shortlist!
I have certainly looked a the Califonia, far more modern and up to date, rear seats and the hard top to convertible factors are quite compelling. I just doesn't seem like a full fat Ferrari though...
I would probably be better exchanging my Bentley for a newer GTC Speed.
All thought welcome over the weekend before I make the actual commitment.
Cheer everyone!

Good thanks mate.
One advantage of retaining black hoops is helping to keep that area looking more compact.
KHPC is a good choice for sourcing - we once did a lingerie shoot inside the showroom, but that's another story for another day.
Enjoy your new ride !
Valid point mate, I showed my wife the two and she really preferred the black ones. One advantage of retaining black hoops is helping to keep that area looking more compact.

Of course this made me consider that I should have them changed!

Hi Julian,
So our paths cross again. First with the DB9, then the Bentley and now I see you popping up on the Ferrari thread. As you will remember I went from the Manual DB9 to the Continental GT Speed and I now have a California (30) in black.
In hindsight my mistake was going from the DB9 to the Conti Speed and then the California. I wish I had gone from the Aston to the Ferrari as the Bentley, although a beast (Had it mapped to 706bhp) was still a 2 tonne car. I missed the noise and driving 'fun' which I now have back in spades with the California.
Are you still up in the Nottingham area?

We must have similar (good) tastes!
Your GT Speed was fantastic (your Aston was as well), but I didn't know you had also bought a California.
I was considering this:
https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
But a big, brash, red old school Ferrari just felt right at the moment.
Holding deposit is down anyway, but this can be changed. I feel I have rushed a little bit in terms in not extracting the full enjoyment out of the process!
Cheers!
Edited to add:
I don't think the Speed was a wrong move (and it did fit into your garage after all!), your re-maps are completely bonkers, and yes I am still in the Nottingham area (though in the middle of nowhere and closer to Rutland!).

Thanks all for the suggestions.
I have decided I am going for a red 360 and probably the one I linked to and have put a holding deposit down on.
The silver one certainly appears to be great value and lovely looking (and as mentioned I could have it wrapped to red), but it is not as well specced, has nearly twice the milage and I am worried about the wonky looking bonnet line.
As nice as the California (particularly the 30) is, it just doesn't feel like the Ferrari I am after.
So it now all comes down to the shade of red, I guess.
With my focus being so much on cars I managed to miss this:

Stick with rosso corsa. Personally, I wouldn't get a rosso scuderia 360 and that's from someone who thinks it does suit some cars and I certainly wouldn't get one without having seen the colour in the flesh.
Hi mate, lovely pic.I actually like the rosso scuderia, but I understand your point and have not yet seen it in the flesh.
I am going to have to see if they can bring it up to me to view before I go forwards.
Cheers!

That is super helpful thanks! I fully take on board Jim's point above, but actually think I may prefer the rosso scuderia.
I think it looks brighter and younger (don't know why on the latter!).
They have agreed to send it up so I can see it in the flesh anyway.
Cheers
