Hot on the heels of the 812 SF and GTS order books being closed, I heard this week the same has happened with F8 Tributo and Spider, at short notice, leaving some of those deliberating over a purchase high and dry.

It may even be the SF90 Stradale is canned, leaving only the SF90 Aperta.

Ferrari are having a real clear out, pinning the future on hybridised versions of Portofino and Roma, the 296 GTB, the SF90 A and the much anticipated - by some, presumably, not me - Purosangue.

I heard this at a 296 launch event this week. Who knows for sure? Agree with you about the 296 engine bay, this looks a bit of a mess to my eyes.

Yes, the rationale for having a glass engine cover was always that there’s something worth looking at underneath… I think the cover should have a privacy glass option - to spare the owner their embarrassment.

The car I saw also had the expensive carbon fibre trim to the engine compartment but, as we all know, you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear…

I’m not warming to it at all and hybridisation comes at a price. This car is £29k (if you believe the starting price of £231k) more than an F8 Tributo of 2 years ago and £49k more than a 488 of 4 years ago. A reasonably configured Spider will be knocking on the door of £300k.

I’ve seen it now at two launch events in July and November and I would say the reaction from those there was pretty luke-warm. Maybe we’re all getting a little bit jaded from the constant model churn and the whole green agenda?

Agree with you about the F8 which was a mild facelift and stop gap car before the 296 arrived. I bought a Spider because I wanted a V8 Spider, not to upgrade from something before.

In the fullness of time, I expect the 458 Speciale and 488 Pista will hold their value best with the 488 struggling. I don’t like to look how much my 488 GTB is worth…

I think the strange colour scheme for the 296 is down to the Assetto Fiorano package. Ferrari does itself no favours by over specifying its launch cars.
