I sent the car to the main dealer for a service. The car came back with the engine warning light on so I sent it back.
They checked and found not issues, reset and said they would deliver back.
The day before delivery I get a call that they were putting the car on the trailer and it wasn't working properly and stopped and they could hear a loud ticking noise from the engine bay.
Turns out the ignition ECU mulfunctioned ( i wonder if it may have anything to do with having disconnected the battery and then not gone through the full re-learning procedure on re-start up)
ECU was sent back to Ferrari but they said they dont have the capacilty to look at it for a while and I cannot find another ECU on the market (part 210116)
Quite frustrating. We have the option to send back to Bosch.
Any advice from anyone having experienced the same or who can source this part?

Thanks Aldous much appreciated.
In fact I have managed to source a new part but your post got me thinking ... could it be the MOSFET failing by itsef and nothing to do with the ECU? Apparently the car would not restart after filling it with fuel and that loud ticking noise started when the ignition key was in.

Just an update. As Aldous already predicted, the existing ECU is toast so I am buying a new one at ridiculous cost.
I wonder how we can keep these cars running in future with such scarcity of key parts that cannot be fabricated or repaired using other third parties and Ferrari not supporting in this process.

I'm working on being able to repair these (as well as the ABS units that are unobtainable). Don't throw your broken one away.
OK, thanks for letting me know.
I had said they could bin it but now I'll get it back. Let me know when you have that capability, i'd love to have an original spare.

FYI apparently my ECUs are being flashed with updated firmware that includes misfire detection which apprently was not available at the time. I do wonder if Bosch has shared this updates more widely.

A little update

The weekend before last I got my car back after a new ECU and both ECUs being flashed with the latest firmware.
I decided to go to the dealer and drive the car back the odd 70miles. I definitely felt a marked difference in the delivery. The car is a lot smoother especially in the lower rev range, less jerky (on off throttle) and more linear pick up. As a by product the shifts feel a bit more refined too.
The drive was a bit mind numbing though with the 30miles or so of 50mph average speed cameras.

Last weekend I was egging to go for a drive again but as soon as i turned the ignition the check engine light was on and some strange whirring noises from the passenger foot well again. I had a small drive, switched it off and hoped that the faults would reset but alas no such luck. Called the dealer who was ready to retake the car but then they go informed that they are shutting shop until further notice. I know there are much bigger concerns in the world right now but it is a bit disappointing that this is still an issue and that the car will stay unresolved for a while now ...

I wonder if I can still drive it a bit if I get a chance and if the check engine in the CS is in fact as fickle as in the 355s that show that every other day due to mainly connection issues.

I actually have one as I bought it to use with Harry's LapTimer to get data logging. Never managed to get event that to really work and too scared to mess with the app on the iPhone in case I screw something up as it allows you to change things too!
Maybe I should educate myself a bit better and have a go though ....
