My first virgin thread ,Just worked out how to upload it ,i hope . I was wondering why there's so little mentioned about what is along with the Miura, and GT40 one of most beautiful sculptures ever born ,The Ferrari Dino 246 both in coupe or spyder form is just so delightful ,achingly beautiful today let alone in 1968, words fail me ,i just become a emotional wreck with my eyes tearing up every time i see one especially if you add chairs and flairs to the occasion, Maybe the fact that i used to own one some years ago for the princely sum of £12,500 and sold it in favour of keeping my Maranello Sprint Pack engine carb 308 GTS at the time may have something to do with the tearing up bit ,I think i must have been more into the performance side then ,either way not one of my better decisions. Not particularly fast ,felt like it was capable of taking a lot more power ,It was a job to shake off a keenly driven Golf GTi or 240Z but that would be missing the point now especially in today's traffic ,would be nice just to wear it like a Savile Row suit as long as you got something else suitable for when the need for speed arises. Found another video on the "Supercar Monaco TV " Channel ,It's called "How to buy a Ferrari Dino" with Lain Tyrrell giving his expert opinion once again. Hope it may be of interest to some .Still haven't a clue how to link ,must get my son to show me ,can't be that hard . Anyone please.

Wow,put the pc on tonight and was pleasantly surprised with all this Dino content, Love Verde Germoglio ,it really shouldn't work but it does in bucket loads, saw a 246 in this colour a few years ago at Bonhams Rivival auction. These vivid colours really suit the car. I owned a 308 GTB in verde metallico medio ,medium green to you and me,sounds much more exotic in Italian .Better go and get some pop corn as looks like it's going to be a long night getting though these video's.

Always very difficult to get past the looks of a Dino because you just want to love it from the first glance . My father suffered just that emotion and gave in to it . His serial petrol-headedness compounded by the fact we lived just a few miles from Maranello Egham caused him to drop in one day . He finished up with a new one and his joy was complete . Well it should have been but the reality was one of such frustration for him I think , from memory ,it was the shortest time he ever owned a car . The number of times it was back in the workshop was just unacceptable and the love was short lived .
Whenever I see one the phrase “ world of pain “ comes to mind . I guess those that remain are well fettled and give much pleasure . Back when they were very much cheaper I’ve been tempted a couple of times to consider a purchase but I can’t get round what’s permanently lodged in my mind. They still look so lovely though !
Remember driving 65 miles in my £1,200 E type roadster on a Sunday just to put my nose and sticky fingers against Maranello's showroom glass and gaze at the new Dino's in various colours. Being new they were not considered a icon then but you knew you were in the presence of something special even then .A few years later i would visit Talacrest's showroom as well who were just round the corner from Maranello's. Could have bought a very low mileage demo coupe for £4k from a Ferrari dealer somewhere around either Bristol or Gloucester area ,can't quite remember which .Did have a slight story in as much it had a small bump but had been repaired in house by the same selling main agent.

This is a Ferrari you enjoy most with your eyes I think. Was tempted to look into them a few years ago and it was depressing how many of them had stories, despite looking outwardly OK. The coup de gras for me was that they're just too slow. You have to rev the tits off them to get anywhere, and while that's fun for a bit, it gets tedious.
100% agree, that's the exact reason i chose my 308 GTS over the Dino and at the time was the wright decision .You need another faster Ferrari . one for looking at and the other for driving which at the time i couldn't afford to keep both. .

Are they really that slow though? I mean obviously compared to any modern performance car they're slow but that's missing the point. They're, what, 40-50hp down on a 308 depending on whose figures you believe but they're also a fair bit lighter. I find my 308 plenty fast enough to see off the national speed limit on a decent A road so would imagine a Dino the same...
No they are not that slow just feel it by todays standards , Back when i had the Dino i was all about speed which the Sprint pack engine 308 GTS had in spades, although it's hard to believe i paid £6k more for the 308 than i paid for the Dino.
I would choose the Dino every time now not because of to days values more that i could still enjoy it at a slower pace while looking down the bonnet in between those lovely front wheel arches and listen to that exhaust note that is characteristically Dino and pretend i'm Tony Curtis driving along the Promenade Des Anglais, With a few more years behind me now my taste has changed somewhat and as l said before ,would be happy to just to wear it .

Just when i think it's safe to go back into the water you go and put another photo up of your gorgeous Verde Germoglio Dino , What you trying to do to me! My car was Rosso Bordeaux as well, never seen another one until today when Motheathound put a photo of his on .
It was owned by Rod Stewart's lead guitarist who took it with him to the USA to join Rod ,lucky he didn't converted it to l.h.d but did have to put those horrible side markers on to get it registered in California. Lucky for me when he returned to the UK he bought the car back with him, I bought it direct from him via a tip off from Maranello's ,They didn't want to get involved as it really needed a repaint due to the California sun but looked ok from 10 yards but not embarrassing to drive. quite enjoyed driving it like that as being O.C.D saved me cleaning it every time i took it out and could park it places that i wouldn't normally leave a mint one. More relaxed about it and felt i was more in control of the car rather it controlling me , if that makes any sense. Shame as the guy i sold it to repainted it red ,(how predictable ) and has been sat outside in Scotland for last 20 years or so.he won't sell it,i've asked him enough times and doesn't have the money to restore it .Would be nice if it could be bought as don't particularly like the original colour so would be first choice after seeing yours to paint it Verde Germoglio as originality wouldn't really matter in this case .

rat rod,

If you can find a copy for a reasonable price, I highly recommended seeking out Matthias Bartz's 'Dino Compendium'. It is unquestionably the Dino bible, and a real gem for anyone who love these cars.

When it was being sold direct from the author, the price was around £120 I think.

eBay asking prices are £2k+, but actual sold prices are more like £800-1k. I'd think there might be some available privately for more like £500.
Boy, The prices vary a great deal, prefer the later one,

IS -UK are you reading this or have you already got a copy.

Thanks for posting torquespeak.

I bought one direct from Matthias when he released the book. He's a great guy and helped me with a number of details on my cars and I sourced a couple of items for some of his cars in return.

When I picked up my first Macan in 2014 the first thing I saw when drawing up to the dealership was ISUKs Dino. You can see it lurking in the background of this photo

There's that Dino again in that gorgeous Verde Germoglio colour , Make no apologies for repeating myself, it shouldn't work on a classic Ferrari but it just does, makes other Dino's look a little bland.

Not so sure a Daytona would carry it off so well ,

It still seems to be for sale....
Didn't know it was for sale, just found it on " Car& Classic , Although there's a lot of fan's on here including me

the colour is very Marmite for most who are buying as a investment may be making them a little wary.

Simon Furlonger got another Dino in a lovely Verde Pino colour but p.o.a so no bargain basement.

I'm definitely a fan of the colour. I suspect investor hesitation may be as much related to the fact that the block is unfortunately a replacement and there is no clear history on when/why the block was replaced.
You have a good point there, bearing in mind there's so many for sale and for money asked will be difficult if not matching numbers,

Probably mattered less when i bought mine ,at £12,500 for the first one then £28K for the second one some years later things like that

were less important. Just got to find a buyer who will forgive that and pay more importance to the colour and condition.

BobToc-------- May have flooded their own market but could be good for the buyer,

Not often you get a choice of 5 Dino's under one roof,

Oaky---------- , Going to be a interesting auction value wise,

These retro cars from the 80's & 90's seem to be in fashion with a Integrale fetching £218K and a Impreza's at £155K

both limited edition cars granted so anything can happen.

Remember turning a Dino down for £3K ,only had a E type worth £1,800 at the time and the cloths i stood in,

Then some years later paid £12,500 for my first Dino then thought i over payed for my second one at £28K ,

Then my inconsiderate wife decided we need to move house so goodbye Dino then she divorced me rolleyes

As you say the perfect pair, fit nicely in the garage as well.

Is it better to drive a slow car fast(not suggesting your cars are slow) or a fast car slow comes to mind.

This is the Dino in which I enjoyed four very happy years driving undoubtedly the best car I have ever owned, including one of my best ever road trips, a 2,500 mile round trip to Maranello for the 50th. anniversary celebration in 2018 (last two photos). There are only two Ferraris I have ever wanted that I could afford, and this was one of them. I consider myself to be a very lucky man to have the memories of Dino ownership.

What a stunning colour both inside and out, a jewel of a car ,

Looks like it was born that beautiful not made.

No car needs to be any bigger than this, they fit like a clove

Owned two Dino's some years ago and although i've had plenty

of faster exotic cars since not a day goes by that i

regret selling smash them especially that speed isn't number

one factor anymore, It's deeper more emotional than that ,

it's the way the car makes you feel.yes

And what a fantastic arial photo of the 50th anniversary, clever stuff,
