Inspired by the Speciale appreciation thread running else where on Piston Heads I thought I would share the joy that the last year of owning this wonderful car has brought to me and many others.

I bought the car from Lamborghini Edinburgh last October with only 900 miles on it after nearly a year. It had 2 previous owners, the last of which had never driven it, using it as a mechanism to get on the list for an Aventador SV. Big thanks to Andy Canning for a great deal and spot on service.

I wasn’t too keen on the original spec so had a few minor cosmetic changes done, ridiculous I know trying to tone down a bright green Lamborghini.

Since then the car has had a few more miles added to it. First serious trip was around the Yorkshire dales and beyond, where the weather was a bit mixed to say the least, not often I am grateful to be following a Toyota Jimny for a few miles. This prompted me to buy a set of Sottozeros and meant a winter of reassured driving. Love the tyres, they are a bit squirmy and don’t have the ultimate grip but are very predictable in the cold damp and greasy conditions.

This year brought a bit of charitable work for both the Sporting Bears and Leeds Candlelighters. These are brilliant events where you can share your pride and joy and bring some real pleasure to others who may never have even sat in a Lambo never mind have a 10 mile round trip or a serious blast down a runway. Many are carers or affected by serious illness so that often adds a certain poignancy.

Had a terrific run around the Lakes with fellow enthusiasts, great roads, fantastic weather for the first day and brilliant scenery. What’s not to like.

A lovely visit to Goodwood FOS, courtesy of Lamborghini Edinburgh and the opportunity to park up right next to a group of newly delivered dealer Performantes, I was so excited I forgot to take a picture with mine in it!

It’s done an end of term pick up for one our friend’s son and a run out for a sprightly 80 year old with a replacement hip, she could get in and out of the car easier than me!

Heading towards the annual service brought the opportunity to do our own Scottish 500 in late October. Popped by for tea but didn’t get an invite.

The scenery and colours were simply wonderful and with roads to match had three unforgettable driving days, the last day culminating in a distillery tour and handing over the keys to our better halves for the last 50 miles.

Like many owners I can honestly say I have had nothing but positivity towards the Lambo. Every visit to a petrol station, supermarket or run out for fish and chips at Whitby ends up in some form of conversation about the car. People do let you out of junctions and you end up immune to phone cameras.

I have no idea what the fuel consumption is, when it’s getting low I fill it up. Best guesstimate is 20mpg ish in general use, perhaps 25 on a motorway cruise, a lot less when really pushing on. I’ve added nearly 6,000 miles this year and topped up with one litre of Mobil 1.

I have never had a spurious warning light and one that probably saved me a serious accident when I got a low tyre pressure warning, a nail had gone through the centre of a rear tyre. Other than that it’s been low screenwash or petrol.

There has been lots written about the driving thrill of the Huracan, this article is more about the total ownership experience. I work full time and have been commuting all year between North Yorkshire and either London or Aberdeen but still find plenty of reasons to drive this, it’s entirely addictive. Passengers are inevitably reduced to fits of giggles on the first blast through the gears and many are truly astonished by the car’s capabilities. The best thing is without doubt the sound, oh the sound, especially with the factory sports exhaust fitted, but I still find time to simply look at the car and it’s subtle and multiple design features beyond the hexagonal theme.

To finish the tale I picked the car up last Friday after its service to drive back from Edinburgh to North Yorkshire. Beyond the multiple speed cameras of Scotland the A68 opens up beautifully, the roads were quiet and the light just starting to fade, the car seemed to come to life and the downshifts echoing amongst the trees was simply magical. A glance at the speedo told me everything I needed to know about how capable this car is. Next weekend brings the refitting of the Sottozeros and on we go...

Thanks for the comments and I’m pleased that everyone ‘got’ the intent of the post. These are marvellous and highly capable cars that deserve to be driven and shared.
I have a deposit down on the currently non-existent Performante Spyder, but I’m sure that will change soon. Bizarrely I also have other photographs of an old git sitting in my car too...

Thanks for the comments. I use Edinburgh as I have a good relationship with Andy Canning up there. From where I live, which is the Northern most parts of N Yorks, there’s not that much difference between Edinburgh, Manchester, Leicester or Birmingham so use the place I trust.
I was out and about last weekend, I’ve got the winter tyres on now, and I am planning to do a few of the Sporting Bears events this year including Supercar Experience Meadowhall Sheffield Saturday May 12th, Raby Castle Sunday 12th August 2018 & Teesside Autodrome Monday 13th August 2018.
Please PM if you are planning any runs out around the area I would be happy to meet up.
Cheers.
