I saw a mention of this in another unrelated post but thought it might get more attention on a dedicated thread.

I recently test drove and ruled out a Performante because it was making this cracking / popping sound from the roof area so much - it was bad, but the (main) dealer did assure me it just needed the bolts that hold the engine cross to the body tightening / replacing.

It happens when you go over a sharp bump or undulation, especially so when you’ve got some steering lock on.

I’ve just done two years in a regular Huracan (a car that was two years older and with 3x the mileage) and no such issues in that car.

I’ve then ended up buying another Performante which I thought didn’t do it, however now owning it, I get this same cracking sound occasionally. It’s just been into the dealer this week who have replaced the bolts for the engine brace (and bolt the brace right to the rear of the roof, where the cracking seems to originate) but, having just driven it home, it’s still doing it, albeit still nowhere near as bad as the first car I test drove.

It’ll go back to the dealer next week for them to look at this again (and they will seek advice from the factory) but does anyone have any other theories or experience of what this is? It’s clearly not supposed to do it because it’s such a loud crack I doubt they’ve have engineered it to be like this and my last Huracan never made a peep.

That aside I have to say what a ‘cracking’ car (literally biggrin) - I don’t think it sounds quite as good as my previous LP610-4 (which had a factory race exhaust) but dynamically it seems to fix anything that maybe wasn’t optimal on the standard car and, to me, seems right up there with my previous McLarens dynamically (albeit still a very different proposition), yet with the benefit of this world class powertrain. I was a real fan of my last Huracan which I preferred to all my previous McLarens, Ferrari 488 and others, even though I knew that objectively it wasn’t as good in some areas. With this Performante it’s hard to think how it can be materially bettered as an overall package.

Cheers

Right then, thought I may as well update here incase anyone needs a solution in future, but my roof 'cracking' is fixed.

It was not a small sound - when the car was in a position that the chassis would twist (e.g. turning whilst one side of the car is at different level to the other...think going round a mini roundabout with a pronounced hump in the middle that one side of the car goes over), it let out one or multiple loud cracks from the upper roof area.

The dealer did the known fix of replacing and tightening the engine brace bolts, still no better.

They took the engine brace off and they said the cracking was even worse.

They then reported it to the factory who instructed them to apply a penetrating silicone liquid to all the metal joints behind the rear headlining where, across the top of the rear window is brace that is joined to the side panel of the car, as well as all the chassis / body joints in the upper roof area inside the engine bay.

I was a bit sceptical but much to my amazement, it's totally gone.

Credit to Lamborghini Leicester for their very prompt work to resolve this - I now have a totally silent car.
