Help us test our new mobile site
Discussion
It is very early days but work has begun on what will become our new mobile site, and we're looking for some volunteers to help us test it.
Please sign up here, and we'll be in touch. We're looking for people who use mobile devices to browse a variety of sites including PistonHeads, and we're especially interested in getting a good mix of smartphones across iOS and Android. At this stage we're treating iPad as a desktop device. Yes, we know that it is arguably mobile, but we don't deliver the mobile site to it at present and the new classifieds site works very well on tablet, and has had a few things built into it to help.
So at this stage we just need a reply here with your mobile device if you're happy to help.

Stuart's original post asks for people to mention what device they're using. Presumably so PH know they're getting a good cross-section of devices and browsers.
Exactly. Don't you just, err, love the way that people comment at the end of a thread without reading the start...Porkupine said:
Think perhaps you took my post the wrong way. I have read the whole thread as it has developed and if you re-read through you will find I am one of those who also posted what device I am using!!!!
Anyway look forward to help with the testing....
Fair enough. I just saw the whole thread as people telling us what browser and OS they use as we asked, rather than "showing off"Anyway look forward to help with the testing....
Just to give everyone a quick update:
- We've done a "quick and dirty" scrape of the current site just to keep classified functionality working. We're not terribly happy with it and it'll be tweaked over the next week or so but it should carry us over to the new site.
- The new site has cleared the wireframing/UX stage. We tested that in person with a very small group of users (less than 10) representative of the type of people who'll use it. Because that's a prototype it needs someone to demonstrate in person, not least because we wanted to record the way people were using it as well as having them describe it.
- The next stage is to build that into a working prototype accessible via a URL. That's when we'll be releasing it to people taking part in the trial. There'll be the opportunity to tweak the functionality in response to the opinions of this much larger group (that's all of you).
So the short answer is that whilst there's nothing to see yet we are cracking on behind the scenes, and we have been taking into account user opinions right from the very start.
So once again I need to ask you to watch this space, but that isn't for a lack of activity on our part. Quite the opposite in fact.

You don't fill me with much hope.
When will the new mobile site be up and running? If it's not long to go then I'm perfectly happy to wait until then.
I explained everything a few posts ago. Please go back and read my post, but there is no link, and I'll be in touch when there is.When will the new mobile site be up and running? If it's not long to go then I'm perfectly happy to wait until then.
At the moment there's nothing which needs testing. Work is ongoing, but at present it is on the underlying engineering which will allow us to understand where you're visiting from (ie Desktop or Mobile) and therefore what page to serve.
The actual UX stuff is still in wireframe form, having been shown to a small group of users around 6 weeks ago. It'll be this which you see first, once we've had a chance to turn it into working code.
