On the strength of threads like this, https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... would it be possible sometime in the future to have a "block user/poster" option?

I know this has probably been discussed before but I thought since the recent forum changes it may now be a better time to implement such an option.

^^ Good guess... But that's just one example of a trend that seems to be becoming more prevalent of late. I was thinking there could be options of how someone could be ignored, either per thread or every thread for example.

I'm against being able to block users.

This is part of a modern trend, on the internet and increasingly in society in general, of trying to hide viewpoints you disagree with.
It's the start of censorship, because the next step from there is "this person is blocked by xxx number of people, I think if a person has xxx people blocking them, they ought to be banned".

If you don't like someone's posts....ignore them. It's just an opinion you don't agree with.

Of course, the next step in this discussion will be someone to claim the person they want to block is a "troll", which again these days seems to translate to "someone with an opinion I don't like".

What happened to forums being places where people could post their opinions without others deciding that their own opinion is the only one that anyone should be allowed to have?
You're wrong.. For me It's got nothing to do with blocking viewpoints I disagree with but rather blocking people who just want to stir the pot, be a nuisance & have got nothing of any value to add.

For example. I don't agree with you but I wouldn't block you because you sensibly stated your opinion. Some of the threads I've seen people don't seem to have opinions & are obviously only there to annoy. That's the difference.

Unfortunately, its not on the cards, but thank you for your suggestion!
I didn't honestly think it would be, although I kind of hoped, but thanks for your reply. smile
