... is really poor. That's it really but it's been bugging me for a while. Blocky, blurry images of beautiful cars on a car website isn't good. I understand the constraints of bandwidth but the current solution just doesn't strike me as good enough in 2017.

Hmm not convinced that's the same thing. Desktop user here, well laptop but you know what I mean. For as long as I can remember the quality of images has been crap, and I believe it to be deliberate for cost cutting purposes.

Yes the image quality is just generally poor. I access from work from and home, Windows/Chrome and Mac/Safari respectively.

Apparently it's due to some inherent constraint within the bowels of the PH website, which in this day and age is not good enough frankly! A solution will need to be implemented at some point so lets cracking eh chaps? smile

Red really seems to accentuate the vileness.

^ WHS (Firefox on IOS Mobile, Firefox on Windows 7 Laptop and Firefox on Windows 8.1 desktop

I really can't see anything wrong with them.
I just installed Firefox (W10) to check and the image resources are the same and look just as bad.

I've blown the BT46B photo up by 300% so it's maybe clearer, are you seriously telling me you can't see the horrendous compression artifacts around the lettering?!

So you've zoomed in to a photo to 300% just to show the problem? I think that just says that there isn't a problem at the normal size.
Sorry but the problem is plain to see, zoomed or not. Put your readers on! nerd

Sorry to keep harping on, but if we're going to be obtuse...

PH

Auto Express

The Times

Evo

PH like a lot of other outlets used Alpine's own launch photos, except theirs have been shrunk and even then, horrifically compressed. https://www.parkers.co.uk/alpine/a110/ has 56 pictures on offer and they all wipe the floor with what we have here!

The Autocar image has what I'd consider 'typical' JPG artefacts.

But the PH one - god knows what's been done to it! The artefacts are terrible, particularly in the paintwork down the door gap. My best guess is that it's been repeatedly resized, recompressed. The autocar image file is about 30% larger, but that's largely explained by it having rather more pixels.
I don’t pretend to know the intricacies of images but I know when the colour of the fking thing actually changes, something isn’t right!
