Over the years I have noticed a pattern of response to a number of recurring posts:

- I was speeding
- Had an accident
-had or having an affair
-OH left
-committed a crime

In general, when the unwise come to PH for advice, the response is not advice but a lynch mob that builds up in fury to macerate the OP who then disappears, leaving the PH posse to polish its spurs for having run the miscreant out of town. Let's face it, the idiot deserved an even worse fate than the courts assessed and probably should have been stoned.

I wonder why people do this.

While I have never had the need to post such a thread if I wanted advice on speeding for example then I assume that I have admitted my transgression and do not need the torrent of abuse. ( I exclude the superb and objective advice of AGTlaw who actually answers the question rationally).

Seriously, do people think it is admirable to kick someone who is just taking a question?...yes , of course there is negligence and stupidity which is why the issue arose. Presumably the OP knows this.

Do people think internet mob scenes advance anything?

As one poster said I did not really do a great job of the thread title. My apologies

Still , there seems to be a bit of truth to the notion. I certainly would never suggest such a level of correctness that people can’t have fun with an idiotic post. Some have been brilliant. The real difference is when the attack is designed to personally diminish the OP.
As one US judge said about porn: I can’t really define it but I know it when I see it.

As the OP I am very well aware that the majority of people here are generally great and have often been astonished by their generosity ,helpfulness and compassion.
Nor do I think that moderation is inadequate.

My only real point was the small number who avail of their anonymity to amuse themselves by demeaning others and derailing threads. If they said these things in real life I doubt that they would have anyone at all to talk to except for others who enjoy the same thing.

So , in the spirit of the season my only suggestion is to think before blasting out some bile at another poster. Of course any forum leads to disagreements and arguments can be very well reasoned without making the brilliant observation that the opposing argument has been made by a knuckle-dragging moron.

There is one poster being a nob, a mob requires at least more than two, why don't you report it to a mod directly as posting on here is pointless.

This is real problem whole thread ruined by 1 or 2 posters, just get rid of them, not close whole threads.

Absolutely right...I have seen some very interesting threads disappear because of trolls. Better to get rid of the trolls than kill the thread.
