Hi

Currently drive an SL2 with which I am still very happy. However, the itch to go up to a V12 is growing and have given some thought to getting a LP640, e-Gear Coupe.

Would be interested to hear from anyone that has one or has owned one in the past in terms of experiences, opinions, things to look out for or any tips about forums I can research this type of thing myself.

I am not interested in views about investment potential etc etc, as I would drive it rather than look at it. In the real world, are they a beast you can live with? Reason for LP640 is that I can’t quite get to an Aventador post 2013, or an S which is the one I would really want and I kind of like the styling of the Murci to be honest.

Am I Mad? The alternative is to get into a Huracan at some point, but would be an LP610-4 and not sure if that has lost some of the magic by being a much more digitised Car...some say sterile.

Thanks

This is a given, since it is an older model. Sat Nav is easily remedied with a Tom Tom or similar and as for Carbon Tub, not essential for me. The SL2 doesn’t have one of these either, but still a blinding car.

Thank you for the feedback thus far. I appreciate fully a car like this will be more expensive to run than the SL2, I also understand that there are some horror stories, but then I don’t know of any car like this where horror stories don’t exist. There is a white LP640 at VVS with 10k on the clock, on a 2008 plate at £179k before negotiation which attracted my attention. Looks pretty sound and I think VVS have a decent rep...

I think I would get it inspected before going anywhere with discussions though...anyone know the car? I would realistic do around 2-3k miles per year in something like this, which is less than I do in the SL2, so sort of middle of the road useage relatively speaking, not a daily.

Oh, I don’t do expensive ornaments and would use it regularly between around March and November. I tend to avoid the depths of winter mainly to avoid the salty, gritty roads, but have been known to venture out of a fine dry day through winter. My SL2 is used a fair amount and often for longish runs, because I can’t get enough of “The Event”.

Cars respond better when used regularly in my experience, but I definitely appreciate the heads up in terms of “Tantrums”. It is Italian after all! Passion and drama is in the DNA.

Thinking that if I do take the plunge, a few things have come of this useful feedback:

1. Manual is more sensible than e-gear. I do really get on with e-gear though, I think you need to know how to work it properly. I.e. don’t treat it like an Auto. It is a manual car with no clutch peddle. Drive accordingly.
2. Put away around £5k-£6k annually into a pot as a self funded Warranty.
3. Drive it regularly

I guess then it is a bit of a lottery in terms of picking one and it being well behaved. Is it likely that the 6.5 640 is going to be more sorted than an earlier 6.2?

Not put off yet! I couldn’t share one though, that’s like sharing a girlfriend! Lol.
