Hi all

I don’t frequent this forum section as I've been a porsche owner for many years but as I’ve no chance of buying a new one that i want I feel its time to maybe experience another marque.

After a recent holiday in dubai my son pointed out his favourite car was the Lambo Hurracan even though he thought it was a ferrari !! And it go me thinking about a change.

My previous car was a 997.1TT (4.5 years ownership) current car 991.1TTS (3+ years ownership) I don't change often and average 3-5k per year mileage wise as have a Macan as the go to daily or several motorcycles to choose from for fun in the sun.

Driving wise is a mix of drive out breakfast runs, trackdays & Ring trips.

Ive been musing over a change for 12 months now as I hold no favouritism at my local OPC for buying a new GT3 or RS and I refuse to pay overs for such a car.
I like the cheap running and servicing costs of the 911 also their warranty cover, so would be a good deciding factor

So my recent list of cars are very few,
Ferrari 458 / 488
Lamborghini Gallardo / Huracan

Budget would be £150k and under (I appreciate the 488 is not at that price yet, it was just on my radar as love the look of it) theres no time frame either as my current car is now SORN until April 2020.

What would be best suited to my needs in terms of usability, reliability and running costs?

Thanks in anticipation

Thanks carspath

My current ride fits easily in my normal sized garage so I’m somewhat restricted I guess in regards to width and length. The 911 is 1880mm wide x 4506mm length

It’s a comfortable fit but anything wider I would struggle to be honest.

Having a quick look online the dimensions of the Murcielago is 4610 x 2058 the width may be a problem unless someone can confirm otherwise.
I have a roller shutter type door so it removes the restricting framework of the original up & over so i have a bit extra width but not much%

Thanks guys.

Like i say I'm in no hurry as i have zero experience and knowledge on the Lambo’s & I would like to get some idea what the best replacement for the 911 is.

I’m looking to trade maybe around April. So will have some idea how the market is moving over next few months.

My last major service including plugs was circa £1500, next one is in 15 months which will be a minor and warranty renewal but thats not important if I've traded it by then.

What are the service intervals and prices like?

I’m based south of Birmingham (20 min drive) to give an idea of who might be recommended or your experiences.

Stretch to the Huracan Performante.

You will not be disappointed.
They are lovely

I shipped one from Beijing to Hong Kong early last year, it was in transit to eventually end up in Tokyo.

Hope you don’t mind me sharing

Would that not be an issue in a ‘normal size garage’ also im concerned about there depreciation of late albeit that may be unwarranted on certain models

Who was complaining about trolling on their forums recently? tongue out
Im not quite sure what this refers to TBH.

My post is a genuine one and your more than welcome to come see whats sat in my garage any time you wish and i’ll explain my reasons for a change to anyone who would listen in return for the experience and advice for what what direction to go.

Its time for a change but having only been a Porsche driver and used to its all round capabilities and decent running costs, i need good advice before i can make a proper informed decision on the car I find most appealing.

I will certainly look at the Huracan and loom for a test drive as there seem to be many good recommendations for it.

I'm only 20 minutes from Worcestershire (Gloucester). I'd be pleased to take you for a drive in my 720S if you like. I could try it in your garage for size. When you are looking to buy next April, there should be a lot of serious metal available within your budget.
Around next April is the plan. My current ride will have fresh MOT and oil/filter carried out. Until then it will sit under cover in the garage.

It would be a real pleasure to be offered a ride in your car, at least i would have some idea what they are like.
I previously looked at them at Rybrook in Hockley Heath, but didn't request a test drive, that was over 3 years ago mind. I bought the 991having traded in the instead.

Took a 720s out on a test drive. Fast but lacked the noise compared to a Lambo V10 and hence lost the drama a bit. Also found it very clinical inside. Cool doors though.
Thanks for that. I appreciate everyone has their own personal opinion and preference to what excites them and what they find appealing in a sportscar, thus have you driven a 991TTS and if so what would you say were the major differences that make these 2 makes/cars different/appealing?

If I where in your shoes I'd be looking at getting a MK1 SL. Came very close to buuying one (Check this thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... ) and still wish I held out for a good one.
As explained, with no experience of Lambo’s it took a few threads to find out what a MK1 SL was laugh
At first i thought you were trying to entice me into a Mercedes!!

So, a Mk1 is a Gen1 Superleggera? In that thread you linked theres are also arguments against this model and in the car sales section of PH the prices are all over the place.
I can only liken this to a person with no knowledge of 911’s looking at a 997s & a 997GTS and wondering why the prices are so different. I need to get my head around the options and model variations.
