Thinking of dipping my toe into the world of McLaren with a 540c...........spotted one that interests me and its current unregistered dealer stock....to make the numbers work would need a discount of around 5%.......am i going to be laughed out of the showroom ?

any advice would be greatly received

thanks stv

Thank you for the advice.....will definitely pop into the dealers personally and register an interest.....im not great at the haggling side and didn't want to come across as a time waster....if i could squeeze 5-6% that would seal the deal.

thanks

Had a quick chat with the dealer today and was surprised to learn if i went down the pcp route that the GFV figure for a totally base car with no options was exactly the same as a car fitted with £15k worth of options over the same time and mileage period.

He was stressing that the nose lift was a must have but i live in a rural area were speed bumps just don't exist.
I understand that you will probably get a better price come sale time for a car with more options but on the same hand if you haven't paid for them in the first place you would understandably expect less for your low optioned car.

Whilst that is of course true..............the problem with selling a low optioned car.....is selling it at all...at any price.......you may pay more for a car with more options but you are likely to move it on quicker when it comes to sale time........

I agree with what you are saying but there also must be someone out there looking for a car that isnt heavily optioned and the price you advertise for would reflect this and interest this sort of buyer.......its not as if a base car doesnt have all the options you really need

Quick update.......spent the day crunching figures and applying man maths.....contacted the dealer to let him know I'm interested in purchasing a 540c and have a meeting next week set up.

My ideal car will be to my spec and will be pushing for a minimum 8% discount.....hopefully something that's achievable.....if not i will walk away.

Again thanks everyone for there input and help..........fingers crossed

Thanks for the info......we will see what happens when i see the dealer next week......i have everything ready and know what works for me

i need

8% discount on a new my spec build or
10% on a dealer stock car

in all honestly i think my chances are pretty slim.....but we can hope

Sarnie,

thanks again for the tip.........your car is absolutely stunning......we will see with the stock car.....it has a few options that i would have chosen myself but probably £7k/£8k of ones i wouldn't have specced.

if the dealer meets the % i need they will definitely sell a car.

I rarely take the plunge because i am not getting the deal i am after......i have bought several cars that i haven't posted about due to getting the exact deal i was after.

Regarding the 540c ......i was pretty close to securing the deal but the dealer just wouldn't shift the small amount i needed to make the figures work....so i walked and didn't take the plunge.

There definitely is movement on the price of a stock car but they seem to be pretty scarce on the ground........regarding a factory build there was some movement on price but not as large as a stock car......i was quoted a factory build would be March 18 and i would have to swallow the 2.5% increase that appears to be happening in the new year.
