Good evenig,

I am considering buying my first McLaren. My choice is either a ex demo 540 with great options and three year warranty or a 12c with one year warranty. The 540 is £25k more expensive but is basically a new car. The monthly payments are the same due to PCP deal.

I can't make up my mind.

I like the 540 because it has a nicer interior, junior P1 styling, comprehensive spec and three year warranty however I might wish for the extra power and the car could still loose a chunk of money at £140k.

The 12c is lovely spec, faster, louder and may have lost most of its depreciation at £120k but worried about reliability.

Help!

Hello RamboLambo,

Can you tell me why you prefer the Super Series than the Sports series?

Thank you

I have three cars and juggling them is a becoming a real pain. I was thinking of turning three into one special car.

I have driven both cars and still can't decide. The test route is too short. I mentioned this to dealer but can't go further for insurance reasons. So they said.

Why do you think it will be cheaper to own?

Why do you think the 12c is better quality? I felt the 540 felt newer and better built.

I appreciate your feedback.

Independent testing has shown that the performance figures for the 540 & 570 are a lot closer than the official figures. Top gear Magazine timed the 570 & 540 0-100mph. The official figures should suggest a one second difference however it was 6.1 and 6.3 seconds. There was only half a second 0-124mph. My dealer mentioned the torque curve on the 540 is "steeper" and therefore feels every bit is quick and easier in Traffic.

The 540 also has steal brakes which will be a lot lot cheaper to replace. The ceramics on a 570 are £13k!!!

I was interested in a Ferrari 599 until I found out the ceramic breaks are £15k. Ceramic breaks were supposed to last a lifetime but they do not.

Andreas Preuninger Of Porsche said if you buy a GT3 for track work buy it with steel breaks due to the cost of replacing them. I'm sure the video is on YouTube.
