Potential 12C Purchase
Discussion
I’m looking at buying my first Mclaren. Absolute max I can afford is a 2012 12C coupe. Looking for any advice/guidance - is this an amazing machine that I will love or has the game moved on and a 5/6yr old 12C is looking tired?
Residuals seem to have stabilised to me so I don’t think I would take a bath over holding it for a few years, but keen to hear any expert views on that.
Thank you and happy new year!

yep, the very car that sparked my original post! Did you have to tell everyone?? Now if you could all please forget you've seen it until I can get there to view it, would be much appreciated.thanks all for the thoughts and advice, and in particular that buyer's guide.
It does seem like these cars are pretty reliable and the Mclaren warranty scheme is a real re-assurance, and not one of those where they exclude anything they can. Which makes it a must.
Basically I think I need to go and drive one, get hooked and do something rather foolish. Agree, you only get one go at life.

well, if the cars were so reliable, why is everyone (especially owners) saying that the warranty is an absolute must have? it's probably more accurate to say the cars are reliable until they aren't and the potential costs are such it would only be sensible to get the warranty.
Do update after you have a test drive anyway, you should know pretty quickly if it's the right car for you.
yeah, touche. Do update after you have a test drive anyway, you should know pretty quickly if it's the right car for you.
I do take your point that there is a difference between being able to afford to buy a car, and being able to afford to own/run the car. Important to go in with eyes wide open.
