The Grand Tour 650S/720S Lap Times

Got round to watching The Grand Tour Season 2 (episode 4) where the 720S was tested. Much to my surprise, the 720S got the identical lap time to the 650S of 1:17:90. Now, I don’t remember the 650 being tested in past episodes of either TG or TGT. Can anyone confirm or deny?
I felt that the vague comments around the 650S being on Trofeo R tyres were all a bit convenient, particularly, as they were never a factory option besides the completely different Corsas (which McLaren have said aren’t as good as the new ‘standard’ PZero fitted to the 720). Again, please feel free to correct any of my misunderstandings, but did anyone else think that this was all a little too convenient a retrospective justification to pacify the new ‘better, newer, more expensive’ halo car?
