Purchased a McLaren 570s Spider having only popped in for a nosey to show the wife on the way back from getting my Porsche serviced.

Collection next week, thanks to Mc Bham's Dan for a painless deal.

Roll on next week!

Indeed it is Ventura Orange, I quite liked the look of the full palladium roof finish as it happens. They had that finish was on the yellow car next to it in the showroom, I thought it accentuated the bum / hips look of the car when viewed from behind but beggars can't be choosers eh!

Haha her hair is currently red(ish) not ginger I'll have you know.

Lol thank's for that Pothole, I guess I should of posted earlier on prior to starting on the G&T's but even then I can't guarantee I would of used the correct grammar.

Unfortunately I wasn't over interested all those years ago when back in school, following your admonishment I shall definitely consider myself lucky to have managed to struggle my way through life thus far!

Cheers fellas, going to be a long week waiting.

Well your recent barrage of fab pics didn't help my resistance much may I say Justin, then the wife egging me on to have it about 10 seconds after arriving in the showroom combined with the eminently sensible deal we agreed on, I went from happy observer to new owner in all of 2 minutes.

Mark you not wrong, although I think I used stronger words than that about getting the sign on & its purpose for being there lol.

I have one of the very last 981 model flat 6 Boxster GTS's, bought as a keeper. To be fair it is great car & really excellent value for money when you look at the vast price jump to the 570s but once I'd driven the Mac I knew I would have to have one, just didn't realise it was going to quite so soon!

First impressions (apart from to me, fabulous looks) were of the superbly driver focused cockpit with everything well thought out to maximise control over the car, offering an excellent unobstructed view out & placement of the human within in it, felt pretty spot on for me as a driver.

Driving impressions were dominated by steering, it really stood out showing up the short comings of the Boxster's all electric rack. Giving fabulous feel & understanding of the grip available allowing me to push the car through the corners quite a bit on a short wet/damp test drive after only a few miles acquaintance (sorry Dan!).

Needless to say managing the wet corner exit torque surge when the car is already loaded up in third gear was somewhat of a contrast to the the Boxster's much reduced but more linear delivery!

Overall I thought the car felt very responsive to direction change being light & up on its toes, with a nice pointy front end. The excellent feedback gave me the confidence to push to find the grip availablle without too much fear in the wet after such a very short time in the car.

The brake pedal is also worthy of praise, being both exceptionally well placed (ideal for left foot use if you desire) & having a tremendous solid feel underfoot. Such a nice contrast to the usual useless bit of travel that does nothing prior to loading the brake system. It does require a good push but that very much reminds of an unassisted race car pedal & is all the better for it to my way of thinking.

Quite a lot to take in on a short test drive but hoping all the above is confirmed once I get my car & start to use her.

Not exactly sure on the collection day as yet. It was all very last minute, with us arriving for a nosey yesterday afternoon just prior to closing time & Dan wasn't sure if the car had been PDI'd or not & won't be able to find out until Monday, should find out then.

993AL sounds like your pretty keen on the car if your expecting a second new one this week, be good to see a few pics of your palladium roofed car if you'd be good enough to post when you have picked her up pls. I take it yours is not coming from Mc B'ham?

Guys any pointers on who is best to speak to for insurance quotes & roughly what the going rate is for a totally clean licence & max no claims for mid 40's owner living in a decent postcode out in countryside at all pls?

Thanks for the insurance tip Chris. I did use them years ago to cover a motorhome so will give them a wizz tomorrow.

Mmmm not sure what to do as I did ask McBham about Paint protection, I was somewhat surprised when they told me they don't bother putting any on their Sports series cars, only on the high front carbon content 720s.

The Yellow demo car I drove had 1700 miles on it & I couldn't see any lumps knocked out the front of it at all. As such I'm sort of minded to leave it naked as I've never put any on a road car thus far only race cars, so guess it just depends if I'm feeling lucky I guess.

Do most of you guys get them protected as a rule? If so any recommendations in or around the midlands area & if so what area's generally get covered & if poss at what sort of cost please?

Chill out. life's too short to stress about such a minor thing you've chosen to read on the internet.

Can I just say I genuinely started out on a flying visit late afternoon, just prior to closing time as I was passing the door on the way home from Porsche Solihull. Popped in with the wife as I'd spotted there were an Orange & Yellow 570s Spider next to each other in the showroom which I wanted to compare.

I had no intention of buying a car for the next 6 months or so as financially I felt I was more or less fully committed until then.

Sometimes situations just come about that are too good to pass up. Dan & I got chatting, a question was asked & being a decisive sort of guy I made an offer & was asked if it was accepted would I deposit there & then, my answer was yes.

Needless to say the offer was accepted & hence an unexpected deal was agreed on & a car purchased.

Quite a surreal way to buy such a pricey car, but that is the truth of the matter.

Lol, worry not it doesn't bother me. What I may lack in grammatical expertise I more than make up for with exceptional skill behind the wheel & in the bedroom (obviously!)

It will make a great garage pal for my almost Ventura Orange Hayabusa 7.

Cheers Andy.

It’s unlikely to be an appreciating asset as per your lastest steed but hey ho at least you can actually buy cars from McLaren more or less as & when you want one!

Have you driven one yourself yet, the steering & turn in would be right up your street I’m sure. Best steering I’ve experienced outside of the 7.

Lol your a brave man giving the Speciale a wizz up Shelsley considering the value of it. I take it you showed a bit more than your customary level of restraint whilst doing so & not troubling our Caterham times!

I only had a 30 mile test drive in the wet / damp but didn’t find the steering to be too edgy at all to be fair, just nicely direct & pointy with superb feed back.

I think you’d be surprised how good the driver feedback & ride handling compromise is, I’ve not driven an F car so can’t offer any sort of comparison as to how that feels by way of contrast but of course I’m sure the Speciale is a very talented car.

Not really the ideal day for collection given that its mainly pissed it down, however the car had been a total joy to drive non the less.

Quite a novelty in this running in phase using the prodigious torque to make a lowish rpm tall gear overtakes rather than the blip it down rev it out nature of my Boxster GTS.

I even like the noises it makes, not exactly musical but has a certain charm with its sort of hollow yowl.

Wise move Andy, it takes no prisoners when things go wrong through there.

Do try to get yourself a drive asap, be interested to hear how it compares to the F car.

I've absolutely loved driving mine in the damp / wet conditions today. Its a weapon, I found it so confidence inspiring with the terrific feedback the car gives up.

Hi Dave.

Worry not, it is indeed installed in the car. That was the only library photo I had to hand at the time.

McLaren Ventura Orange sure makes the Busaham's orange look ste I'm sorry to say mate.

Still lacking the motivation to compete at the moment, I maybe back one day though never say never eh!

Agreed the Lambo orange is v dull.

I actually popped into Lambo B’ham to have a look at the performante prior to ordering the 570, they had a brand new orange one in the showroom awaiting collection.

Looked almost like it had been flatted down post spraying with some 400 grit wet & dry taking all the shine / sparkle out of it, seemed an odd colour & finish lacking wow factor.

Hi Simon,

Well I try my best, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time eh! (Hoping there are no grammatical errors for the pendants to pick up on here as once again I may have imbided a bit of alcohol this evening)

Decent pic following a good spoodle after 170 very enjoyable miles in the rain on collection day.

It is a great looking & very well thought out car, clearly designed by people who understand what a driver wants. Rarely have I felt so connected & well informed in the drivers seat.

1 week on she’s now done 515 miles & off for PPF fitting Monday, once that’s sorted I can really use her properly.

Thus far very pleased indeed, I even like the Iris system & the stereo is pretty damn decent too.

As for the grammar tossers whenever I feel down (yeah right!) I wonder over to my garages & take a good look at the cars, smile to myself & think if only I’d tried harder at school maybe I could of made them happy too!
