I thought you’d turned a corner as you’ve managed a few posts recently without mentioning MOC UK. Seems you have fallen off the wagon.
You must really dislike the MOC UK to ridicule me for raising awareness of the Wilton House event and the MOC’s attendance.

From another post, you said: “I even joined the owners club (but felt distinctly uncomfortable with the principle of having to send a copy of your V5 to establish your worthiness) so never really engaged with it but what I did see looked pretty cliquey if I’m honest and definitely not for me”

You forgot to mention: The £50.00 subscription fee is a total rip-off - The amount of free and credible support / advice on-tap is terrible – UK and International road-trip / driving events are so boring – Regular guided tours of the MTC are worthless – Membership discounts are rubbish - The annual ball is a farce – Organised McLaren track days are pathetic – Club invitation to join McLaren at the Goodwood FOS is appalling - They couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery etc. etc. etc.

My view of the MOC UK is very different to yours. The MOC UK is a fantastic club managed by enthusiasts who want to see the McLaren brand go from strength-to-strength, whilst also having a lot of fun at the same time. There are many members of the MOC UK who give up a lot of time and commit personal expense to attend events, many of which are for various charities. The Wilton House event is for Salisbury District Hospitals Charity

To get the best out of the MOC UK, you need to engage with it, and that’s why it was definitely not for you. No doubt some of your cliquey McHaters will be along shortly. Keep engaging with that keyboard.

Yeah, posted a thread about this yesterday in the Events section.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Nice to know a few Macs are going, might pop along myself.
I was there in June for the Best of British event - a real eclectic mix of cars. Very good turn out and all money collected goes to a local hospital charity.

I think the event on Sunday should be larger. Doors open at 08:00 but most aim to be there earlier to try to get into the courtyard area to park up together into respective clubs and groups, rather than parking on the grass beneath the trees.

Some pics from the June event. See you there.

Well, it was an early start for me, setting the alarm for 05:00 then on the road for 05:45, arriving at Wilton House for 07:30. Conditions on the way was a mix of dry and very wet roads. Piloting a 700+ BHP rear wheel drive car can be a little bum hole tightening on wet and slippery A roads through Wiltshire. I’ve covered over 8K miles in the car since I purchased it four months ago in April 2019, but it’s the first time I have driven it in heavy rain. The rear got a little twitchy on standing water.

Apart from some heavy rain to begin with, the skies eventually cleared, and the event became very enjoyable. Lots of Joe Public came to visit, so not just about a bunch of car nerds talking pistons and turbos. For me, the best part is about sharing the experience with people who come to visit. I always lift the doors and invite those showing an interest if they want to sit in it and take photos. Somehow, I ended up directly next to the main entrance into the courtyard, so it was like a continuous fairground ride and even had a mother with young baby on her lap sat in the driver’s seat. Mats, carpet and door sill got covered with mud, but hey, it’s only mud. To see the excitement and smiles makes it all worthwhile.

There was a fantastic array of cars there, including a beautiful F40. It is rare to see an F40 at this type of event. If the owner is on PH – Thank you for sharing it - Respect!

Good to put some faces to names and had a good chat with PompeyReece and his Fiancé. Hopefully he will become a McOwner within the next few months.

The McLaren Owners Club UK had a fantastic turn out of members cars. I counted at least 15 x Macs, mainly lined up as a ‘guard of honour’ either side of the main entrance to the courtyard, where more Macs were waiting inside. Also had bacon butties and refreshments laid on free by the MOC UK.

All-in-all, a fantastic £3,192.35 was raised within a 3-hour period for the Salisbury District Hospital Charity, being the most raised at one of the Wilton House car events. Well done to everyone who attended.

Here’s some pics from the event….

Aye, good to meet you too.

As much as I'd like to look at ownership in the next few months, a wedding stands in the way of any car upgrade presently! So get that out of the way first then we'll review finances with the missus. She was pretty struck on the Macs and the 570S though so that's one barrier out the way!

Mick!

I had a feeling you might be on PH...met you briefly on Monday in a pub car park where my son and I were admiring your car.

You absolutely made my sons day (and mine) by offering him the chance to not only sit in it but also to start the engine. Big moment in his life and he’s not stopped talking about it since.

You’re a gent. Such a kind thing to do, thank you so much smile
It was a pleasure.

I collected my 650 Spider today,. I will start a thread with my thoughts in the next day or so - but the house opposite me had a couple of kids visiting today - they turned up 5 minutes after I got the car home. Eldest looked about 12 / 13 I guess and he came over and stared at the car as soon as he arrived - he was literally in a trance! Younger kid followed, and was pretty excited but not the same scale - the eldest really did look like he'd just found out aliens were real and was looking at one.

Both had a sit in the car and started it up - I would say big smiles, but the eldest still looked shocked. Happy though I think!
It's a great feeling isn't it? For me, it really is the best part of owning a McLaren (or any supercar for that matter). We are fortunate to be able to have these cars and it is a pleasure to share part of the experience.

I invite kids to sit in it, which they are already over-the-moon-with, then I drop the "do you want to start it" bomb. fk Yeah, in one-way shape or form is generally the answer.

I visited a Children’s Hospice in Bristol last week to take a young lad for a drive (he only wanted to 'see' a supercar). He was disabled and, in a wheelchair, but when I asked him if he wanted to go for a drive, there was nothing going to stop him getting into the passenger seat. The carers assisted him to get in, but when I dropped the “do you want to start it” bomb, his face was a picture. He knows more about the 720S than I do. It’s one of the cars he drives on Forza.

Looking forward to your write-up.
