Hi all, after years of scrolling through these forums, i have finally gave in and created my own username. I understand this is a forum, and people are entitled to their own opinions, however there is a lot of nonsense that is thrown around on here regarding McLaren as a brand.

I would love to give owners advice/resolutions for issues/recommendations etc, i would love to give potential owners advice on these things also... as i feel the brand does take a beating on here, which is very frustrating when McLaren actually build probably the best performance cars on the road today (i am sure the other owners on here feel the same).

A bit about me, i have extensive knowledge of the brand, having worked for them for over 4 years, and i can honestly offer an unbiased, yet factual view on all concerns/questions.

If anyone has any questions etc, please PM me, i will monitor these regularly.. or simply ask anything on this thread. I hope i can be useful to some people... thanks.

Does it have F & R parking sensors ?
Does it have alarm and tracker ?
Palladium or CF bits ?

Glass door tops or CF ?
Which exhaust ?

I'm obviously not being clear. Mclaren state a DIN weight of 1420kg for the 720S, I wanted to know what is the spec of the car which they say weighs 1420kg ie which options does it have/not have ?
None of the 720s tested came near to 1420kg even though some had CF bonnets and bucket seats so I wondered what the official 1420kg spec is ?
Ah ok I see what you mean. Like all manufacturers, McLaren don’t give to much away on that front. Give me 24 hours and I should be able to get an answer for you.

so "with" not "for"?

Or does Mclaren own some dealers?
Yes apologies, with, not for.. Not that that particularly effects much.

As I said, I am just here if anybody would like any questions answered etc.. I will answer what I can, if I don’t know the answer, I will find out for you. (As said above).

Hi, after putting a deposit on a 12c the test drive didn't go as planned. Still hoping they can resolve the issue, however I have now been looking at 570 spiders and wondered if you have an opinion on launch editions?

Would some have been used as press cars and demos and would that knowledge be available from a mclaren dealer before purchase?

Would a car used for that purpose give you cause for concern?

Thanks for any advice
Launch editions are easy to spot as the case with the ‘launch edition’ badge under the iris (by the cup holder). Tends to be curacoa blue, Sicilian yellow, blade silver, onyx black and Ventura orange. They also did the MSO version which was Murawai White, this had loads of carbon!

All faults tend to have been cared for now as long as the cars have been looked after by a main dealer since they were launched back in 2017. Be sure to as if the seals have been replaced in the roof. (Some has seals fitted that were 1mm to thin so caused small leaks).

These spiders are great value for money though, If you're budget can stretch to the spider then I’d go for one over the 12c any day of the week.

My 2018 720s performance has been great, however my doors seem to rattle & Its bloody annoying! Any quick fix or tips or do I have to book it in to the dealer?
Does it seem to come from the storage compartment? And does it tend to be when it’s idling? If so, try use the A/C or heating.. sounds stupid it does stop the annoying rattling when in idle

Do you know if there were any problems with coil springs failing on the 650s? We had a spring snap with only 8000 miles covered?
It is not unheard of, however it is fairly uncommon. I know of a couple of people who have suffered this also.. i actually think there is a thread on here somewhere with someone who had a similar case. If you have a warranty then it should be covered.

On my 570s I have the speed warning set to off in the menu but I keep getting voice warnings whenever I'm over the posted speed limit, how do I turn the voice warning off?
On your Iris, follow this procedure - Nav, Settings, Sound and Warnings, Speed Warnings, then flick to off.

Hi
I would be ever so grateful if you advise me on a future purchase.
Looking at a 720s launch edition, from a main dealer. My questions are, is this a problem year as mentioned in previous posts for this model and if so would it be better to go for a later year.
Thank you in advance
If you could send me a PM with the link, or even put the link here that would help.

Most of the early cars have had all of the issues ironed out of them, it seems as though corrosion is still possible on a 720S, so i would thoroughly check the car if i was you. Having said that, you would like to think a main dealer definitely wouldn't have a car in the showroom with corroding panels.

If it is one of the first cars, check to see how much warranty is remaining. But again, as you are buying from a main dealer, as part of the McLaren Qualified program the car must be sold with a minimum of 12 months warranty. Example, if the car has only 3 months manufacturer warranty remaining, they MUST top it up an extra 9 months with the extended warranty.

Thanks for info I'm currently considering a 2017 launch murawai white option (with lots of carbon as you mentioned) or a 2018 ceramic gray with titanium exhaust. Both are MSO colours similar mileage but proving to be a difficult choice.

Trouble is, I do think the 12c has a more supercar look and if they can fix the issue that it had will make choosing really difficult!

Be interested to hear your reasons for preferring the 570?

Cheers
Murawai White is an interesting colour - just a bit of heritage for you, the name Murawai was actually the name of Bruce McLarens home in Surrey. He named it after his favourite beach in NZ, and it was actually the location where he one his first hill climb when he was only 15!

My preference would be the Ceramic Grey car (i think i know which car you mean, orange seatbelts and contrast on the interior).. i love the combo between grey/orange, and it has a MSO Exhaust, great spec car.

I prefer the 570S for a few reasons - one, i am a younger generation, so i love new tech.. even though the Iris isnt the most advanced tech, it is certainly was ahead of the 12c. Secondly, i love the rear end of the 570, i think it is such a beautiful car. The 12c represents great value for money, it is a mega car, but for me, the 570 edges it.

Poster, thanks for taking time to try and help people for free, respect. I don't own a McLaren but would love to one day so any information is of interest. Thanks for sticking around after the initial interrogations. I understand why some question because of trolls etc but sounded quite terse. Anyway, as you were. ears
No problem - of course people will be sceptical as to why i am actually doing this. I have no doubt that many owners will always think i am from the manufacturer, however, i really am not. If i was, i doubt i'd have this much time to communicate with people on here.

As i have said, PM me if you have any questions... i know a few of the guys in here are my old customers LOL. In time, i may open up my own website/forum/channel to help people with video tutorials etc

Very nice car, warranty expires in Aug 2020 so the dealer would top it up to 12 months for you. Very nice car with all the Carbon etc, i personally prefer the glazed roof, makes the cabin very airy and bright. Elite Glacier White is a beautiful colour also, especially when it is under the sun.

Hope it all goes well for you, it is a nice car.

Great to have a knowledgable contributor on here, I can see you are going to be very busy!
Thats good to hear - wait until you get the colour in the sun.. sometimes it looks blue, sometimes it looks white.. nice car you have there, congratulations.

Thanks for the tip re the speed warning Guru! I think it was mentioned on another thread about the pre and post track inspections...is this a fixed price across all dealers and typically how much is it?
Think it depends which dealer you go to, my old dealer used to charge circa 350 sterling.. not sure if any other owners can have an input as to what they typically pay?

To me, it should be charged as 1 hour labour - if it was a reduced price, then it may encourage more owners to take cars on track, as this is where the cars are in their own league.. i am sure there are owners out there who are apprehensive about taking their cars on track, and they do not want to run any risk of warranty exemptions etc, because they are unwilling to pay the high costs of a pre/post track inspection?

From what you have heard from customers have you an idea if a 2.4m width garage would be wide enough to get in and out of a 570s?
Any customers i have had who struggled with garage space did the following - parked closer to one side of the garage, and then put padding on the garage wall so that the drivers door did not make any contact with the wall. The car alone with mirrors out is 2095mm i believe.. so that will allow the door to open, but not all the way..

Where there is a will, there is a way biggrin

Trofeo R, Corsa and P Zero are all same size:type for the sport series.

I used all 3 tyres on my 570s TP and have to say you would not want Trofeos on as all year round tyres.

The best Pirelli compromise are the Corsas, ok for track use and spirited road driving.

This has all been covered before but the Michelin PS4S are better
Yes thats right - 600LT uses Trofeo R, 225/35 front 285/35 rear, same as the P Zero Corsa for a 570S.

I would also recommend Corsa's for 'spirited driving', as mentioned above.. only thing i would say is they aren't too good in the wet, which is quite often in the UK laugh

Would probably just recommend disconnecting your phone, and repairing it.. try that.

On my LT I have std P-Zero. Do you have any knowledge in how they compare vs Corsa, which were not avail on LT?
P Zero are a good all round tyre, think the optimum temperature is around 6 and 18 celsius.. it is designed to be the all round tyre, whether it is raining or sunny.. they are not designed for track. Corsa's optimum temp is slightly higher, think its between 10 and 20 celsius. Better for hotter climates, more of a performance tyre over the P Zero.
