volvo v60 d5 twin enigne
Discussion
So, I was getting a 350E, however I had a call from our lease company about the volvo, he knew I needed good engine only MPG, he's sent me the specs.......... looks great, 163bhp derv engine, so should average a good 50mpg on engine only.
I'm tempted to 'jump ship', the volvo is less fussy looking and nicely put together, loads of spec etc....
Anyone else looking at them yet?

What's the price compared to the Merc?
The 163bhp engine is a good engine and as you said will do 50+ on engine only.
About the same price as the merc, maybe about £1k more, however it does come with proper leather and a few bits that the c350e doesn't have. The 163bhp engine is a good engine and as you said will do 50+ on engine only.
The big draw is the fact it'll do 50+mpg all day long on engine only, unlike the c350e and 330e etc....

I wonder how the diesel engine is adjusted (if at all) to work with all the start stop of a hybrid. If it works in the same manner as say my 350e the engine starts and stops continually on any given journey even when charge is low. Will this create DPF issues in the long run?
My 22mile commute is often 17miles with engine off. I haven't counted but it wouldn't surprise me if it started and stopped 15 times in the 22mile/40min trip. If i leave fully charged it can go 15mins before the engine starts. With no coolant/oil temp gauges on the dash it could be very easy to rev a cold engine hard without realising - maybe merc have thought of this?
Its a company car so I don't really care about DPF issues. It'll also do 20k a year so it shouldn't really suffer from any issues anyway. My 22mile commute is often 17miles with engine off. I'm pretty sure they all use a coolant/oil pre-heat system.

I requested one for a 48 hour test drive from our leasing company.
Just had their Volvo supplier on the phone, they should have one on the road by the end of this week. They have a lot of interest so can't leave it with me but have offered an extended test drive, so all being well they will bring it round next week. Will report back
cool. Make sure they give you the d5, not the older d6!Just had their Volvo supplier on the phone, they should have one on the road by the end of this week. Its showing on the volvo build tracker as 10weeks away. Its got to be the best option for anyone that does a few motorway miles.

Definitely the D5, I discussed that with them. They have just got the car in, it's not registered yet.
I have got a C350e for 48 hours in July and thinking about the BMW's . The 225xe is really cheap on our scheme, I can spec one with every extra within my allowance, but not sure.
Or the 330e, but if I went saloon route still tempted by the Burmester stereo in the Merc.
Then we have the temptation of all the other PHEV, s that are due later this year.
Seems like the same as me.... My thoughtsI have got a C350e for 48 hours in July and thinking about the BMW's . The 225xe is really cheap on our scheme, I can spec one with every extra within my allowance, but not sure.

225xe. not a very resolved package, looks like something that should be at the lawn bowls club, harsh electric to engine transition.
330e. Nice drive, just not very practical and a bit too common. 36mpg motorway.
c350e. Magic carpet ride on the motorway, nice inside, drove well, felt more 'solid' than either bmw, 35mpg motorway.
It'll be nice to see what you think, I know they've refined the system loads since the d6 version

Just to throw another car into the mix - Lexus RC 300h - usual Lexus hybrid with CVT so not a huge EV range and not the sprightliest of performance.. but as a good looking commuter car with a interior that feels pretty special - think i might have to look at one
Tax isn't as low as the Phev options but still reasonable, and considerably less than what i currently pay.
The car's we're talking about at 7% bik.......... against 20ish for the rc300h.Tax isn't as low as the Phev options but still reasonable, and considerably less than what i currently pay.
Its not about having a hybrid for me, its about having the cheapest way to have a half decent company car
I'm pretty sure they've got an active dash as standard, it shows as an optoin but is standard on the PHEV's.
Good to hear it looks good on fuel, 50+mpg without charging on a brandnew engine.
Where have you looked to lease? I'm getting mine though neva consultants.
v60 d5 twin
metallic paint
family pack
harmon+kardon
20k a year, fully maintained. £450 a month.
Which dealer did you get the demo from?

I will double check, but the spec sheet they left with me shows the active dash as an option
its fitted to all of them though as it changes with the modes etc.... Wasn't an option on my spec sheet, supplying dealer confirmed and its not an option on the build configurator.Russ T Bolt said:
There seems to be a bit of confusion around the active dash, couldn't get a definitive answer from anybody. Dealer didn't know for sure, but said their demo has it but not specced, so hopefully.
I have placed an order for one anyway, with a note about the dash.
Should be with me mid September.
Awesome, what deal did you get in the end? What colour combo?I have placed an order for one anyway, with a note about the dash.

The dealers do seem a bit rubbish to be honest.
if it senses slip and there's battery power it engages the rear wheels, as above, you can select awd, it'll run the engine to put enough charge in the battery.
I had a drive of the d6 version yesterday, which is basically the same but with a higher tune. It was the best PHEV i've driven, the 5 cylinder diesel engine sounds nice, really smooth on and off transition, as smooth as the merc which I thought was better than the BMW.
Build quality was lovely also, really lovely.
