I've got to the point where I've nearly convinced myself that my next toy will be a used I8 and not another high performance ICE. Looking at used values, I can shortly justify spending 60-65k on the right car and the values will be there quite soon I guess.

Whilst the car will be used as a weekend toy, I really do not want to be lumbered with massive maintenance bills in the future. Therefore, I was wondering about the forecasted life of the main battery. I'd heard that these would be about £30k to replace?. If so, how long are they supposed to last?

Everything else about the car stacks up for me.

Thanks!

Thanks danp, if that's the case and the batteries are far longer lived and a lot less cost than what I've heard, I really do think I'll take the plunge in the Spring.

Not correct

The battery warranty lasts 8 years, so if I buy a 3 year old I8, I have 5 years of comfort left. If I decide to sell the car on after a further 3 years, who is really going to want to take the risk of battery failure with only 2 years of warranty remaining. Hence the logical question of how much does the battery cost to replace.

You have assumed its easy and inexpensive to replace, what is that based on?

Well, nearly a year down the line from starting this thread and I've just picked up my i8. Bought a 2015 example with very low miles and impressed so far. Looks stunning, great road manners and pretty dynamic to drive. I hope I stay in love....

Strangely enough, with all of the anti diesel talk at the moment and local councils deciding on their own criteria for low emission zones, I reckon the future residuals of these will hold quite well now. They've taken a hit in the first 2 years but should slow quite a lot moving forward.

The cost for battery replacement at £8k is not bad and will fall over time. That's the first real cost I've seen, so thanks for posting that!
