Anyone else tempted by one of these? I start a new job shortly and will be looking to order one via the car scheme for sept delivery, though i have no idea on current lead times.

I've got a 48 hour test drive today of a 530e Msport

So far very impressed. Averaged 40+mpg on a 35 mile m-way drive. I have it on charge now and will see how I do on the commute to work tomorrow. (23miles). The performance is impressive, and totally seamless as to whether you are on the ICE or electric motor.

The new idrive is very impressive to, and I love the ability to write characters on top of the idrive controller for address input.

I have a Merc E350e over the weekend so will be interesting to see how they compare.

In the merc e350e now. Total pants compared to the bmw. Only managed 14 miles of easy cruise before battery flat (19 miles of more enthusiastic driving in the bmw). Plus a number of weird lurches and lunges from the car when slowing and then accelerating at t junctions...

Still waiting for my 530e. Lease company still predicting 1st week of jan. The wait is killing me. 5 months since my test drive and 4 since order placed...

The spec sheets are confusing for the 530e. One portion of the bmw uk webpage says the petrol engine is 250bhp on its own. I think the petrol and electric motors are the same in 330e 530e and 740e with the power levels set by the ecus. But hard to find actual facts on any of this!

I finally took delivery of my 530e last week. So far I'm very impressed. Lovely to drive with a very well sorted drivetrain. My 23 mile commute was 253mpg on the way in and 175 mpg on way home (full battery at the start of each drive. At this rate my trips to fill the small fuel tank will be few and far between.

First 'week' of commuting over in the new car. I charge at home and and work with 23 mile trip each way. I've had between 160mpg and 260mpg so far reported via the app for each trip and I'm driving at same speeds as normal. I use max edrive for most of the trip, knocking in to auto for a big mway hill. I can arrive on the last few electrons in the battery in this way.

I should save about a grand a year in commuting fuel... Which is nice.

As far as I'm aware se and m-sport 530e have the same suspension settings. Unlike other models. I have an se with vdc and ride and handling are both good

4500 mileson mine now and loving it still.faster than my previous e350d even with flat battery as it retains some power for eboost.

Managed all of my 23.6 mile commute home on battery today with about1 mile left.

I'm really warming to the vdc suspension on mine. It certainly becomes 'taut' in sport mode but still comfy unlike the a4 blackedition i had before. The adaptive mode is great to. On a fast b road it was a little floaty in ecopro mode.. Switched to adaptive and ride smoothed out as it firmed up just enough to get rid of the float... Very impressive

A few weeks back I did a 120 mile run down the a303 and back roads to north Somerset. I 'made progress' the whole way and averaged 51mpg for the trip (plus 1 battery charge). My 2012 Merc e350d would not have done so well. The tech is really impressive. If you do a lot of long trips with no charging available at all then a 520d will be for you. But that is a slower noisier beast....

Westy,
Give the hk stereo 2-3 weeks to bed in. My sounded rubbish to begin with but now (9 months in) sounds great.

I think all 530e have the se suspension not the m-sport.

I've averaged 112mpg over 9950 miles so far. Best on 1 tank was 4.5 weeks and 1255 miles with 156mpg.

Max mode for me. I think you only need one of the other modes if you are being creative with charging.. ie using a partly coiled extension cable or a long spur of old wiring to a socket where you don't want to draw 13amps for a long period

In max mode I charge in about 2.5 to 3 hours on my 32amp charger, though the 530e only draws 16amp max I think

I'm not sure your info is correct. I was home at about 1900 tonight and the car had used all the ev battery. It is now 100% charged... so in 2.5 hours. I have a type 2 charger and bmw type 2 charge cable (not the domestic
3 pin 13amp transformer jobby) and understand it will pull 16amp. It certainly charges far slower the couple of times I've used the 3 pin plug transformer jobby.

24615 total miles on my '67 reg 530e. Average of 110 mpg. I'll take that... with total electric distance at 17,025 miles!
