Hi all

This is my 1st post so please be gentle with me lol.

I have a Focus 2010 1.6 diesel titanium estate and I would like to know if it would be ok to use heating oil in the tank. I have read that if you mix 3 litres of cheap vegetable oil with 20 litres of heating oil it will work fine although I don't want to ruin my engine if it's not going to work ok. I'm not sure what sort of fuel pump is on my vehicle or if it will cope ok.

I have read numerous posts on other forums where many are using it without problems but I wondered if there were any good mechanics on here that actually know what they are on about rather than people like myself pretending they know what they are on about.

Many thanks in advance.

Im aware the tax man doesn't like the idea, ive never been happy about the amount of tax on a gallon of fuel either, I think that is criminal. Thing is I have about 1000 litres of heating oil thats going to go to waste if I dont shove it in my tank so I just need to know if it will work ok or not and then I can make a decision whether to risk it or not.

How do I turn 28 sec oil into 35 sec oil? Is it simply adding veg oil to it and if so what is the ratio does anyone know?

Thanks.

Well Ive just done a load more research and if its true what Ive found out a 20:1 ratio of Kerosene and veg oil is almost identical to regular diesel and the Cetain content is also a very close match.

Im at the point now I don't know what to believe lol. As I don't know the peoples personally and how good a mechanic etc they are I can only go with tried and so far tested results which at the minute is a 20:1 mix of veg oil and Kerosene 28sec. Or what I am toying with is 50 50 mix of diesel and a 20:1 kerosene mix.

Well we have a decommissioned oil boiler at work as we have converted to gas and the tank has approx 1000 litres still in it. Work won't sell it so it is just going to sit there like it has for tne last 3 years. I may as well make use of it eh.

No, its a health and safety issue and Im doing the firm a favour by getting rid of it. Fire regs say it shouldn't be there if not being used coz eventually the tank could rust from the outside as its v damp in the cellar.

Ok, I've took all the comments on board, done all my research and made a decision. What Im going to do is everytime I fill up I will put 2 gallon of heating oil to approx 8 gallons of regular diesel and if it knackers anything so be it, Ill just part ex it for a newer model.

Thanks for all your replies.

Just come off the phone with a mate who drives a concrete mixet and a bloke he works with, his brother has the same car as me and has been using kerosene in a 50 50 diesel mix for the last 5 years and he does approx 11000 miles per year with no problems whatsoe er, it starts 1st time every morning and all mot emissions pass with flying colours. If all of you saying it will knacker my engine, how do you know if you havent tried it yourself or know someone who has with bad results. My car will no doubt be knackered in 4 years anyway and if not Ill be looking to change it anyway so it doesn't matter :-)
