Gratuitous new car post....

Just picked up my new Jaguar I Pace to replace my Tesla model S

What a difference!

The Tesla was an impressive bit of tech

The jaguar is a great thing to drive and so much better built. The premium textile interior makes it for me

Happy chappy

Thanks guys, I’ve just been for a decent drive and I’m loving it.

The build quality is on another planet to the Tesla

The ride, steering feel and response, and body control is superb.

Only downside far is that the infotainment is a bit laggy

I’ll keep this thread updated if there’s interest

Neighbour got one about a month ago- had it a couple of days and had to go back for a few days- all software - infotainment, nav, heating cooling stopped working. Could still drive it but that was about it. He still has a couple of issues that need sorting. Saying that he says he loves it and it’s certainly impressive inside. I would say it’s a big old lump and he struggles to get it in his garage
Coming from the Tesla it feels compact to me.
It the same size as the wife’s Macan, both shorter and more importantly narrower than the Tesla

Given I’ve lived with the Tesla for 2 1/2 years I’m well used to things going wrong. In that The centre stack locked and needed a scroll wheel reset at least once a week and the built in Spotify worked about 1 day in 5. The app connected 50% of the time, it flattened its 12v system twice and just died.... etc

So far so goo on the I Pace but I’ll keep an honest record

Hi, just a logistics question. I drive a few times a year to Spain, each day is about 1000/1100 Km with an over night stop between the two days. If I get a good run I manage 100k/h across the two days.
Can this type of journey be done in an ipace, they certainly look the part and I see quite a few of them around.
Thanks for any info
So the question is can you do 500km in a day.

The answer is theoretically yes but not without a recharge mid day so if it’s a regular thing for you then a BEV probably isn’t for you to be honest.

Thanks for the replies, it’s actually 100/1100 each day so I guess that really knocks the nail on the head of that idea.
Cheers
If you’re doing an 1000km drive regularly then no electric car will ever suit you.

Personally I’d fly, the thought of 12 hours a day in any car fills me with dread but that’s just me

It's hard to imagine something uglier in old man's gold, what a waste of 70K
Well each to their own, it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same thing I guess, although I'll admit to being suprised at the strength of feeling over something so subjective.

You'll not be suprised that I personally disagree, I think the I Pace is the first EV design that takes advantage of the new drivetrain and looks more modern and better for it. Obviously I would say that as I chose it.

Just to clear up a couple of non subjective points, it's Silver / grey not gold and it was just over £75k.

You did well to do the deal when you did: Tesla have just announced huge price cuts on the Models S and X. Apparently the top Model S has been cut by over £40,000! AutoExpress reported it.
Indeed, looks like I came out of the Tesla at the right time

Thought I'd drop an update on the ugly olds mans gold car......

Positives…
Build quality is really good, feels very solid.
Really comfy, exceptionally quiet and relaxing.
Love the premium textile.
It's a much better size than the Tesla which was so wide and long it was cumbersome.

Negatives…
The range readout is very pessimistic, it shows just over 200 miles when full, reality is I can get 230 odd, used to get 240-250 out of the Tesla, odd since both are 90kWh batteries
Backup camera is dangerously laggy, the picture is jerky and slow to update so don’t rely on it.
The infotainment is OK ish but very slow to boot up.
The matrix lights are like witchcraft, superb but I cannot fathom how to activate them. They’re currently on but no idea how I did it and I’ve read the book twice on it, so now I daren’t touch it!
Dissapointed I couldnt get a heated steering wheel.

Overall it’s drives ver much like the Tesla only it’s been screwed together properly and doesn’t need resetting 3 or 4 times a week!

That sounds like a long list of negatives but I’m really pleased with it.

Just on this point, I wonder if it is worth asking your dealer if there has been an update, as the reversing camera on my car has no log at all. The picture is very smooth.
It’s smooth, just a quarter of a second behind reality which is the difference between nearly parked and in the shrubbery

On the range thing quite close to the tesla bearing in mind the i-pace is only 84kw useable
Is it?

I didn’t know that, what is the other 6kw reserved for?

I did a check just now on mine. I turned on the camera as someone was walking behind the car. I could see their position in the rear view mirror and it seemed in sync with the position shown on the camera. Also no jerkiness. Perhaos they have applied some kind of an update depending upon the build date of the car?
Interesting, I’ll ask

Thanks

Out of interest, how are you finding the performance compares between the i-pace and your Tesla is real world driving?
It’s very close though I think the Tesla was slightly quicker if I’m honest

But the I Pace is quick enough and has the useful typical electric instant response

At the top it prevents damaging the battery by overcharging. At the bottom the car will do a few miles after it shows 0% to get you home!
On the Tesla you could set the charging current and charge level, I do slightly miss the level of control

A lot of early reviews seam to criticise the I Pace as being in inefficient and having poor range compared to a Testla.
At low speeds its not bad but looses out at higher speeds.
In reality I’m finding the range is pretty similar, however the range calculated and displayed on the dash is very pessimistic.

I did a 95 mile run the other day and it used 72miles of range

Its not that far off tbh over mixed driving.

That backs up what I'm finding.

Reality is range is very similar between Tesla and Jaguar.

The Tesla was much more optimistic on it's range calculations

The Jaguar was pessimistic on the dash display, but in reality it has more than it says.

So, update......

Still loving the car, especially the premium textile interior, really nice place to be.

Went in a mates recently who has leather and I'm really pleased I went premium textile.

Range calcs seem to be sorting themselves out and being more realistic, but the display still only says 210 miles or so when fully charged when reality is more like 230-240 in mixed driving.

It's super comfy and plenty of interior space, especially in the back, but the car's a great size, very useable in traffic and parking.

Only gripe really is the infotainment which is still just OK but certainly not a patch on the system in my wifes new BMW.

What’s lacking in the infotainment system? My XF has good voice rec, Apple Play, Android Auto, a good SatNav, OTA updates, a decent sound system. Quite customisable, works well overall.

Wouldn’t mind gesture control but not sure I need much more.

I’d have thought the I Pace was at least at the level of the XF.
It’s ok, it’s just not great.

It’s behind BMW / Audi by quite a margin but if you’ve not experienced them it’s fine.

It’s a bit clunky on the UI/ UX design and not responsive, a bit laggy.

It’s not terrible, just not great.
