We are looking for a new works van, we'd like to go electric obviously, but what's out there? Any experience?

It would need to be at leats Transit size, but I believe it would take ages to actually get a Transit delivered.

Thanks for your replies, our typical run will be around 110 miles, carrying maybe 500Kg, on mainly 60mph roads?

Sorry for slow reply, it needs to be at least Transit sized, ideally slightly bigger floor area though.

And, I over estimated our range, which would be around 80 to 90 miles per run.

We will also have our 1.5 tonne Transit as back up.

Budget? Don’t really know? See what’s available then work out the feasibility, cost and use wise smile

Are there any hybrid vans?
Ford has a Transit Custom L1H1 with a 1.0 petrol ecoboost (124bhp).
Apparently the MPG and performance is abysmal once the small battery (13,6kWh) is empty (15-25 miles) and it's very expensive! Even the range on petrol (combined) is limited to 300 miles.

If loaded up you'd be seeing <35mpg and 250 miles range.

Autoexpress Transit custom PHEV long-term-review
It certainly seems that manufactures skipped the hybrid idea altogether, and concentrated on full electric.

Update smile

After watching 5th Gear's test of the electric Transit, where they loaded it with a tonne and covered 120 miles, I had one on demo yesterday.

I loaded it with 800Kg, and it comfortably did what we would regularly use it for, when i delivered it back it had covered 100 miles, and had 25% charge left, with an indicated range of 43 miles remaining.

Overall I was very impressed, it was very smooth, pulls really well, the one I had was the higher spec with 360deg cameras, heated seats +.

They are stock vehicles these days, so it'll be interesting to see what the lease deals look like.

He must be covering quite a few miles then?

The van’s obviously not fit for everybody’s business.

You made a good point there, I'm in Southampton, so the run we do is extremly flat compared to what some others might have to navigate. smile

We took delivery of our E-Transit 3 weeks ago, it’s great to drive, plenty of kit, and it would do 2 days work on one charge, but we still charge it every night, obviously.
