A quiet campsite - we need a few more people
Discussion
Last 2 years I've stayed in a very quiet site on the East side of the stadium. Pictures below.
Positives: its scenic, 10 mins walk to Tetre Rouge, its safe, its got lots of electric, and its quiet - no having to listen to st music at 2am. It has tonnes of space, we had our 5 tents on something the size of about half of a football pitch.
Negatives- the shower is a hose pipe, loos are "use a car park chemical bog down the road". No website or information. Payment is cash only. The owner speaks zero English
The owner seems to live on it in a static trailer with his family (or uses it as a holiday plot, I cant work it out), nice people but clearly not well off. Not scum - they regularly hand us things we drop from carelessness - phone, radio, battery pack and even a wallet full of cash! He constantly checks on our own security, including making us hide our bikes from prying eyes - he is constantly watching who comes and goes to keep the site secure, but we sit up chatting til 2 or 3am, he just leaves us to it.
On Friday night I set off my car alarm at 1am. It was pretty cool to see 2 24/hr security attendants from the car park up the road check with me that all was ok.
The owner has promised to build proper showers and toilets for next year. To be fair to
him he's spent a fortune on landscaping since I first walked past it in 2008.
Its a little paradise, and beats the other circuit sites I used in the past by a mile. I've had 12 with me this year, all agreed its superb.
The issue - there's no way this years takings will build the washroom facilities, he was well down on people, probably no more than 20 guests at £150 for 4 nights per tent, £200 / motor home. Last year he had 3 times as many people.
As he spends so much making it a nice spot I'd like to get him a few more punters - so hopefully he won't be too hard done by building some decent washrooms.
However its staying a well-kept secret, so...
If you want somewhere quiet, well presented but very basic, please post your username on here, then in September I'll start messaging people with location etc so you can decide if its for you. If you have a giant music centre and like playing rave music then this place isn't for you.
Im at the Moto 24 in April so I'll nudge him with the numbers then - hopefully it will entice him to get his act together in time...no guarantees though!
Oh and about 8 of us from our group will be there next year

I don't check the email account my private messages go to, so if you need to speak before just let me know on here and I'll pm my email address.Dave T
Happy to answer any questions on here for by email or phone.
Otherwise we shall chat in September. We don't need to book this place so there is no panic

Went past here on the shuttle bus to Mulsanne Corner. It certainly has an impressive entrance way.
TBH the way the official sites have improved in recent years I think that the private sites will have to very much up their game to offer anything better.
Agreed, the main sites now seem to have less campers, better facilities than a few years ago. For me this site wins on location (we can reach the Mulsanne straight easily) and lack of noise - no loud music is the best bit. Really nice setting tooTBH the way the official sites have improved in recent years I think that the private sites will have to very much up their game to offer anything better.

I must be missing something.. Terrible shower and no Loos but apart from that it's great...!?!??
The campsite we've been on has hot showers, clean toilets and both a plentiful. The site itself is fairly quiet and as always you make friends with your neighbours and everyone looks out for each other, whatever nationality.
We managed to get electric hook up as well.
The site seems to attract return groups, which is a bonus.
Yes you're missing something- including the fact that he's building a toilet and shower block next year. If the numbers dropping significantly, which may in part have been due to the rudimentary facilities wasn't a wake up call to make improvements, perhaps it's too late. I hope not as it sounds like a pleasant site to stay on, other than the toilets and showers which unfortunately can make or break a site. When choosing a site, not just at Le Mans, if the facilities are poor, people will not be back no matter how nice the scenery. A quiet site sounds like heaven though.
Totally agree with you, gone are the days you can get away with it. Had I known there is no way we would have used it, but been there twice now, and we've all decided its a little piece of heaven so even if he fails on his promise we'll still use it, unless we find somewhere nicer (and we've looked at loads of options and stayed at other sites). We are 3 minutes drive from some excellent shops with no traffic, and use the bogs at McDonald's 6 minutes away, or at the circuits or the other restaurants we visit. If all else fails we're next to a massive forest. The butchers, tabacanist and bread and cake shop save us having to worry about cool boxes and general supples too.
The cold hosepipe shower is believe it or not the single best hangover cure I've ever experienced, I wish I could bring myself to try it at home!
Im planning to get someone French to call him in January with the numbers making new washrooms conditional to our stay. We've all agreed between us though we'll use it again regardless, we just won't tell him that!

Considering going to my first le mans in 2021 with my wife, if they get decent showers and toilets I'd be interested in somewhere quieter and would certainly appreciate a message if you remember!
Yes I'll keep a note, and if they do build decent washrooms I'll update this thread and I'll get in touch Sept 2020. It would be perfect IF the washrooms were built, obviously if not then no place for wife.Well it looks like I can bring a lot of people to his site.
Im going to get someone to call him in Sept to:
A) confirm shower and loos
B) Drop price (last year was 50 quid less!)
I am there in April so can check / inspect, giving people enough time to make another booking if not completed. I will warn him of this too.
Leave it with me chaps, and I will collect email addresses and chat with you in September
Anyone else please put your name on here. Questions please fire away

£150 / tent or £200 / motorhome is steep, isn't it - when there are rudimentary services? OK, electricity and quiet is noted.
I know we were on the (refugee camp) of Bleu Nord again this year, but we had a block of 4 pitches from Team Langoustine for about £300 on which we had 2 cars, 5 tents / people, and an event shelter. BN's stters and showers were good this year.
5 tents on your chap's area would be £750 vs. £300
It was 50% less last year!!!. We like it so don't care about the price, but you're right. Im going to get the riot act read to him - I have some 25 people for you next year, £100 / tent, and loos and shower finished in April or no one will turn upI know we were on the (refugee camp) of Bleu Nord again this year, but we had a block of 4 pitches from Team Langoustine for about £300 on which we had 2 cars, 5 tents / people, and an event shelter. This place is perfect if he does this. If he doesnt I might see if he'll sell it, I know someone who might want it and would put in proper facilities

Registering my interest though either for le mans classic next year or regular from 2021 - start of hypercar class
Loved the trip this year but the toyota dominance at the front less so, and bugger to tire sensors it was an orchestrated alonso win and mike conway et. al. were robbed.
