Displaying GB in France
Discussion
I've been told Le French cops are going to be more picky over the requirement to display a GB sticker on our cars - easy pickings for fines I expect. I had to get new number plates yesterday, they now do them with a GB and Union Jack to the side of the plate - looks subtle / fine so I went for it instead of the GB sticker

The GB sticker will still be needed, the little GB flag on the number plates will not be a substantial size..
I know it’s petty, but the french police could use this as an excuse to fine you...
Edit to say it was what I was told today when I contacted the RAC before I purchased some new number plates today

If that is true and the identifier needs to be bigger than the old EU one why are they even bothering with them on the plates? I’m a tad skeptical about that and I think it’s time the government clarified the situation. If you need a GB sticker like back in the 70s then that’s ridiculous if it’s on the plate I know it’s petty, but the french police could use this as an excuse to fine you...

This is what the new GB plate looks like, writing not even an inch high.
I need to confirm if this 3 inch thing is real?!?
EDIT - ACCORDING TO AUTOEXPRESS You don't need a GB sticker, however, if your car's number plate features the GB logo either on its own or accompanied by the Union Jack.

Auto Express Jan 21st:
"Now the UK has left the EU with a deal, these rules have changed. You now do need a GB sticker if your car has a Euro-plate, as well as if the number plate has no national identifier on it or displays a national flag of England, Scotland or Wales.
You don't need a GB sticker, however, if your car's number plate features the GB logo either on its own or accompanied by the Union Jack.
The only exceptions to these rules are the Republic of Ireland - where you don't need a GB sticker when driving a UK-registered car, regardless of what type of number plate it has - and Spain, Cyprus and Malta - where you do need a GB sticker, again regardless of the type of number plate fitted."
So looks like my auto shop was correct, we now don't need a GB sticker if we have the number plate - excellent

As much as I like it, I'm not sure I'd go to Autoexpress for legal advice craigjm said:

No it isn’t. The new ones are green for electric and blue for everything else just like the EU ones OvalOwl said:

08. National flags on number plates
You can display one of the following flags with identifying letters on the left-hand side of the number plate:
• Union flag
• Cross of St George
• Cross of St Andrew – also known as the Saltire
• Red dragon of Wales
The letters, or national identifiers, you can have are:
• GREAT BRITAIN, Great Britain or GB
• UNITED KINGDOM, United Kingdom or UK
• ENGLAND, England, ENG or Eng
• SCOTLAND, Scotland, SCO or Sco
• CYMRU, Cymru, CYM or Cym
• WALES or Wales
You cannot have the flag or letters on the number plate margin, and neither can be more than 50 millimetres wide. Vehicles which have both the letters ‘GB’ and the Union flag on their number plate do not need to display a separate GB sticker when travelling in the EU unless they are travelling to Spain, Malta or Cyprus.
Thanks for confirming, looks like I've got the right plate thenhttps://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/governmen...
