24 Hours of Le Mans postponed till August

New dates set by the ACO with the ambition that spectators will attend in 2021

If you've been savouring the taste of warm French beer and red sausage since 2019, then you've got a little bit longer to wait as the 24 Hours of Le Mans has been knocked back by two months. But there's hope yet; the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) have moved the iconic race to August on the basis that it might yet allow them to open the gates at Circuit de la Sarthe to spectators.

This year's race will see the dawn of the new Hypercar class, specifically established to increase manufacturer participation and grow the associated fanbase. Assuming it's safe to do so and the event can be made to comply with safety guidance, the ACO is obviously keen to see the new era kick-off with a crowd in attendance. As are we.

The competitor entry list is due to be revealed later today, and we're expecting the next spectator update on the 24-hour race towards the end of April. The dates of other races at Le Mans circuit remain unchanged at the moment, with the Le Mans Classic still set to take place across 1-4 July 2021. However, we are keeping a watchful eye on this.

Our customers who've booked to stay on the PistonHeads campsite with our partner 1st Tickets are being contacted with their options. If you'd like to be the first to hear the latest details and to be one of the first to book should the event be open to the public, then you can find more details and register your interest here.
