Golf MKV GT 1.4 (TSI)

I'm after a 5 door hatchback that can deal with a 3 year old, plus offer a bit of fun.
I'd never heard of the MKV TSI GT until I starter looking at GTI's a month or so ago (I have a history of hot-hatches, have owned a MK1 GTI and 205 GTI)
There seems to be more of the 1.4's about compared to the GTI, I guess they were more common?
The engine is more complicated than the GTI, but is it known to be weak? I'm tempted by the idea of owning a supercharged and torbo'd engine, it's basically a Lancia S4
Looking up to 6k, what are the downsides?
