Hi everyone,

Having recently sold my BMW Z4 3.0si, I'm looking to buy a 2010/2011 Megane 250. Is there anything I should particluarly looking out for in terms of problems, servicing etc?

Currently struggling to find one that meets my spec wants, namely - in priority order - cup chassis, leather seats, non-boggo alloys, visibility pack, Arkamys stereo system & the RS monitor. Also ideally under 40k miles. Am I being too picky, or should I just wait it out?

It appears the cambelt is due at 6 years which means most of the ones I'm looking at are either due, or will be due soon, a replacement. Am I better off looking for one that's had it done (seems to be rare), or try to haggle some money off to get it done?

Any advice regarding these models would be much appreciated!

Best wishes

In a word, yes.

The standard wheels ride better, the rs monitor isn't worth waiting out for (i have it, not used it in years) and the stereo will be crap either way, in as much as it suffices to make noise.

Under 40k for a 10/11 car will be verging on difficult too, though some are a second car many are used daily and I wouldn't worry about mileage too much as they're pretty reliable cars so maybe relax that criteria slightly.

The main common issues are the front lower hub joints wear out usually at the 4-5 year mark. Not a bank breaker as such but not cheap either, if it wanders a lot under power or clunks over bumps then they're on the way out.
There are other less common issues but nothing subtle enough to miss on a test drive.

I'm not sure you'll find many that's had belts done yet unless for mileage reasons or cars that are higher than your 40k target.
