A friend of mine is looking for a hot hatch for 10k or less. He has owned a Mini Cooper, but fancies a change.

He has considered a

Corsa VXR
Fiesta ST
Honda Civic Type R

Any others that you could recommend please?

Thats true about all hot hatches. I really like the EP3 Civics, got quite a lot of room, and the engine is supposed to be sweet. Also it has the reliability. Could anything from Renault or Mazda be an option?

The best/newest Golf GTi he can get for £10k. Preferably in black.

If he is single this choice will not in any way harm his chance with the ladies, as from personal experience, a black Golf Gti is the only car that all my female friends had nothing but praise for. biggrin

The are also usually pretty good to drive and hold their value.
Golf GTI sounds like a good choice, think he said he can get a MK5 for around that price.

He likes the look of this:http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201704044048685?advertising-location=at_cars&make=MAZDA&aggregatedTrim=MPS&model=MAZDA3&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&postcode=l192rf&price-from=9000&price-to=10000&sort=sponsored&radius=50&page=1

Are there any issues with the Mazda? I have personally not seen many of them which is always a bonus smile

For £10k he could buy 2 mk5 GTi's and still have change to pay for his insurance and tax.
That could be true, but it would be a really nice Golf for 10k. Seat Leon looks good though.

If your looking at MK5 GTI get an Edition 30.

MK2 Leon Cupra as I said above look for a facelift one 2009+ will have a flat bottomed steering wheel, chunkier mirrrors etc. There was a slight update to the engine.
Quite hard to get hold of an Edition 30. The Seat looks like a Golf R32, same BHP, could be an option, any issues with these?

Difference is the R32 is a 3.2 V6 but not super tuneable unless throwing ££££ at it, although they do sound amazing.

Cupra get a decent map on it and your into 300bhp straight away.
That's true. I will see what other options are available before sending them over.

Not keen on a Renault he said. Fiesta ST is out of his price range. Likes the look of a Corsa VXR. Said he will look at a ST Focus.
