Hi guys, so I recently sold my car privately taking another can as part payment. All seemed above board the guy was just looking a little change and seemed decent enough didnt have time to clean the car properly as he had a young family etc. I know, all very gullable on my part.

Anyway, it has now been a week and the car I got has an airbag issue which is going to be expensive to fix as well as an MOT looming soon. I habe found out that the guy I sold my car to actually runs his own car sales garage and is selling the car for considerably more than he paid. I understand that really it was my bad, I shouldnt have been so trusting etc, and I am absolutely livid about the whole thing as the guy told so so many lies right to my face. Anyway, the obvious question is, is there anything I can do? I have the new V5 from the new car and have not yet sent off the one for thw car I sold, but this dosent make a lot of difference right?

It is so infuriating, I guess the lesson is not to trust anyone as this guy is now going to make quite a bit of money on my car that I gave him at a good price because I thought he was in the same boat as me.

The airbag fault is a problem with the squib so apparently the airbag needs replaced, it also has trouble starting at times and the central locking has a mind of its own. I was told this guy had owned the car for several years and when he had bought it he had done so from a close friend, turns out this was all untrue.

And no im clearly not a part time dealer as I might have been a bit less trusting had this been the case. I took the part ex as I was looking to downsize and get a much more basic car, the part ex seemed lile the ideal solution. Again I know this was mainly my fault so I dont need told that, I just want to know if I have any options as the guy is now not answering my calls.

Its a 2005 Seat toledo, there is no haynes manual available for it and very little information online in terms of guides. I dont think the airbag is a job I could tackle though. But yea I agree I just have to make the best of a bad situation now, I just really hate people telling me blatant lies

Yea I know where he lives and I know where he works, seeing him in person is my only real option although I know that will get ugly.

Thanks to all of you that have offered constructive advice, rather than just defending this behaviour as 'his job'. I guess I dont have much choice other than trying to work with what ive got

Yea I am a total bad ass because I have someones address that he told me, whats your point?

Also I have no problem with the guy doing business, but I absolutely hate dishonesty and am even more annoyed by the amount of people on here who seem to pass it off as normal or 'business'

Well they say £285 but I see similar ones advertised on gumtree etc for about £1400, so its hard to know what its worth.

The idea of removing the bulb did cross my mind but I just couldn't take that risk that someone could be hurt or killer just so I could save a few pounds. It seems I have little choice but to do what needs done and get it through the MOT.

I actually liked that idea lol...

Out of interest how big a job would it be for me to replace the airbag myself? Not simple right?

Well there is a receipt for a service that was done about 2 months ago where the mechanic has written at the bottom faulty squib, airbag needs replaced, although I assume if I do go ahead and replace it myself then I will still need the lead to reset the fault code.

I still have the v5 here, although to be honest I just want to sort the car out and get rid of it at this point

There is actually nothing in writing to say this deal even took place, he didnt say he was a dealer so I wasnt really expecting any of this I was honestly more interested in getting my car all sorred out so he wouldnt have any problems with it, I think its fair to say I have been well and truly had

Yea I just found a guy that is going to give me one for £50 and I should be able to fit it myself. Then the central locking needs a new solenoid I think which I can also do myself and a few other bits and pieces it might work out okay

Well one of the doors dosent unlock at all, so im going to take it apart tomorrow to see whats what, also it often takes a lot of button mashing to get all the doors to unlock although I believe this may be a setting on the keys that I can get changed. There is surprisingly little info on the Mk3 Toledo online I guess it wasn't a very popular car.

Yea it is... Does anyone have an idea of what the starting problem may be? It usually starts fine but at times it will turn over for a good 10 seconds before actually starting, it was (apparently) recently serviced so I guess the plugs should be okay

Well he has said something about being on his dads trade insurance but idk, I really wasn't looking for any red flags I just took him at his word and that was that, I guess I won't do that again...

The Seat is a 1.9 TDI, I have read it may be the glowplugs? Is there a way to test them?

Can I just get the leads and run the diagnostics myself? Or is there expensive software I need?

Soo would something like this be any good?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122087453345

Or do I need some sort of specific airbag lead to get rid of that light?
