Yes Yes I know I shouldn't be asking opinions on oil burners and in an ideal world the title would read 'Golf R or BMW 135i' but lots of miles dictate that's the way it is.

Anyway I recently had a 318d GT but sold it as I don't need such a big car. In the 4 yrs I owned it I had no troubles with it at all and admit to liking the 8 speed auto box. I've narrowed my search down to a couple of 5 door hatchbacks and have my eye on two. Both 2015 models, Golf is mk7 with nav, heated seats, parking sensors, cruise, keyless start and all the other many features that come as standard. The BMW is LCI with a good spec of leather interior, heated seats, satnav, cruise, Harmon kardon, LED headlights, parking sensors front and rear. Both low mileage, Golf is 18k miles and BMW 28k. BMW is £700 cheaper.

I've looked at all the comparison videos on YouTube etc but there doesn't seem much between them either in performance or economy. My dilemma is go for something unfamiliar in the GTD or stick to what I know and get the 120d?

Has anyone had both to compare? Pros, cons or issues of either?
