Hey guys,

hoping I can get some thoughts on the picture below as to whether you think on inspection they'd say I'd need a new tyre due to the damage shown. Caused by wife badly curbing the front left last week and car goes back in few months.

Trying to balance cost of new tyre at end of the lease as a penalty or just buying a part worn now or just before we had the car back.

Any thoughts welcome!

I was always going to have alloy charge any way but only £36 so nothing really.

Just dont want whole tyre cost if I can avoid it.

Ask the lease company for a copy of their acceptable wear and tear policy, it should all be in there. If not I’d ask them, they’re not there to catch you out.

That tyre would pass an MoT IMO, the damage is on the rim protector and isn’t a risk for water penetration or further damage so it’s probably ok but it will depend on the terms.

I know VWFS charge for tyre replacement at prevailing main dealer rates so definitely something to find out before it goes back if your lease company applies the same sort of policy.

Just ask them.
I’ve had a look at the details and just standard wording of “side wall damage” results in new tyre charge.
My challenge is would the damage shown be considered side wall damage because as you say it’s just the rim section of the tyre.

Think I’ll just do a part worn Pirelli. About 70 then finding a place to just swap the tyre out. The risk of VWFS charging us for the new tyre are retail costs and fitting etc.... will be north of £250 I reckon.
