I’m considering a change next year and will have around £22k to spend.
To be honest I like all of the above but it needs to be a daily driver and I do value comfort slightly with a turn of speed when needed.
I only have a total 25 mile commute daily, on poor greasy roads in winter.
I love the glorious engine note of the RS3 but the 8P has mixed reviews.
I am a bit of an RS fanboy but not sure I could live with the firm ride.
Which would you choose and why?
The Golf R probably makes the most sense out of the bunch.

FRS with the suspension box mod, fantastic bit of kit for what your after.

- Love an RS3 but for me has to be 2015>
- Golf R is nice but very clinical and common
- A45 is a weapon but some scary stories on engine/gearbox issues plus it’s quite a ‘small’ car
-S3 might be ok but could feel like a quick SLine which may be a good or bad thing?

Si
Excuse my ignorance but what is the suspension box mod?

Thanks all.
I think the S3 looks a little sharper than the Golf, so it would probably win out there.
A remap is easy too not that it would be needed.
I do like the Frs it’s just the cost is putting me off, ideally I’d like to stay closer to 20k, the A45 is also quite expensive.
Depreciation is a consideration but not a deal breaker.
Lots of nice cars around at this price though, that Volvo looks interesting, I think I would rule the Subaru out even though I’ve always liked them.

I always liked the Mk2 and nearly pulled the trigger on one last year but prices were too keen.
That white one linked to looks a bit of a bargain, probably due to the mileage.

the golf is hugely competent but to boring for me

the merc and audi (i have owned both) are great in their own ways, the merc is a far better driver, but they have monumental running costs if you stay in franchise (£1500 for brakes etc. A45 24mpg, RS3 19mpg)

not driven the focus

TBH you cant use the power of these cars on the road and hope to keep your licence, I would now go for a slower but far more involved drivers car that you can use more of the time, the GTi TCR would be something i would like to drive, but that wont impress your mates or win traffic light GPs

or an i30N, in budget

I like the look of the club sport edition 40 but dont think it’s worth the extra over a Gti.
