Hi all

Pretty simple really; which would you have? I know the cost of either seems a lot but would you rather take a new 2020 model (integrated dash instead of pop up one, slight changes to outward appearance, a few mod cons I’m sure I’ve not discovered etc) or save 10 - 15% per month and take the outgoing 2019 model?

Same principle would apply if you were spending £300 vs 340 pcm or 450 vs 500 pcm etc. It’s all relative. It’s only 10% for the newer, probably better version but that 10% would add up to a holiday or 3 over the pcp term.

Is the new one worth 2 or 3 holidays? There will still be some sort of break for the kids, but not as nice if disposable income reduced.

Tia

Rick

Or just drive around in my 2007 Mercedes ML 320 SE which is fitted out with every conceivable option, in perfect working order, totally unmarked and worth about five grand.

It is all mine and I go on holiday where the hell I want. Sorted for you.
New job, company pay decent car allowance but needs to be new and shiny to take out clients when required I’m afraid

Thanks gents.

Long story short, it looks like drive the deal . Com have some amazing offers - 22% off 2020 model Q7 and 28% off 2019 models (both brand new no former keepers).

For the money no other dealer or manufacturer gets close.

I’m thinking I’ll take a gamble; I want to 50TD motor and pref S-line trim or above. They currently have some 45TD in s line 2019 or 50td s line in 2020. I’m thinking I’ll hold out for 6 weeks and hope either prices drop further before the end of Q1 as VAG group sales are down, and maybe even find a few 2019 50TD comes out of the woodwork with bargain prices.

If I was VAG I’d be selling low spec old models cheaply first, then mid spec, then if I still needed sales I’d reduce prices of my remaining stock. So, there are better things to come I guess. That’s the gamble.

The original question is wait for TD50 2019 a lines to become available (there may not be any and I miss out), wait for 2020 ones to become cheaper (again may miss) or accept that I can either have a 45TD sLine 2019 for 6k less than the 2020 version, or 11k less than a 2020 50TD s line.

Is the new model worth 6k?

Yes, it’s basically a pre vs post facelift question. Should’ve just said that from the off really.

Company pay 425pcm so above that is my liability. In a Q7 then, I’ll be making some sort of contribution but it’s not the company’s fault I have too many kids and need a big car.

I was wondering about “smart cities” and IoT. Do you think the new model will get new connectivity updates improving sat nav maps etc? and other remotes enabled (or quick service visit) upgrades that the pre facelift will miss?

Other than that is there any other benefit in taking the new model if I factor in lower residual value?

Thanks guys (and gals). Rick

Great info, thank you!

Delay is ok for me. Trying to negotiate my way out of a lease which ends 20/5 but deals are on taking them 31/3 for Q1 and plate change so a delay actually suits (sort of anticipating a delay, hence looking 4 months early).

Had a look at nearly new ones but the APr and balloon payments make it less attractive - why pay interest when you could pay for more car etc. Haven’t looked at 68/18 plates but might be worth considering.

I’d happily take a black edition but it’ll come down to what’s available in a 50TD in a few weeks time. Want to wait until mid feb really as that’s when I would release the mega deals if it was my business.

Interesting you say the interior looks dated. Does it look so dated you’d pay the 50-100pcm premium? The only blocker to paying the higher amount for a new one is twisting my better half’s arm, and justifying the cost to myself. I love a good deal and if I think it’s a good deal then I’ll be happy. Trying to work out if 22% off a 2020 is better than 28% off a 2019 (both “new” as in no former keepers but obviously the2020 is the new new one).

More insights like this please!

Also, DTD are saying all the 50TDs went before Xmas and only 45s are left, but I’ve seen some 50s in franchise websites so it might just be DTDs suppliers previously ran out. I’m hoping they’ll insource more from other franchises but who knows. Tanking a punt a bit.

Thanks for the above. Leaning towards MY2020...IF there are actually any left. DTD day they’re all gone in the Xmas blitz but I have a hunch we’ll see one or two in the next 4 weeks with a good price as long as the order can be delivered by March. Everyone says they’re gone but I have this unexplainable feeling it’s going to be ok and more will magically appear (ever the optimist).

There are some MY2019 45s for 41k. Bargain. If I can get a MY2019 50td for <43 I’ll snap it up and can take delivery the next day for that price and just suck up the lease remaining costs. Spend 1500 to save 17k is a no brainier. If no more TD50 MY19 appear by, say, 28 feb I’ll take whatever is left in a 2020. And if they’re all crap deals too then I’ll lease an Xc90 or go mad and take a v90 estate T8 hybrid, 530d m sport or A6 estate on a 24m lease and wait for the next bargain.

They cannot demand this. Simple reason being; what happens when you leave / resign / retire / become unable to work ... they will not be taking the car off your hands.
The contract has pre requisites like must be road legal (tax/mot as required), minimum 4 seats, kept clean and tidy etc but doesn’t state “less than 24 months old” or anything. It is, however, a certain expectation. It’s like working hours; if someone gives you £100 grand a year and a 37.5 hour contact (as an example. Perhaps one day, maybe) I wouldn’t expect them to switch their phone off at 17:00 every day and all weekend. They could, it’s not contractual that they don’t, but it’s not going to get them the end of year review they’re after and unlikely to deliver expectations. And before that whole saga begins I’m personally all for work life balance but that doesn’t mean things don’t go wrong after 1700 and if you’re on 100k the chances are it’s your job on the line if it isn’t fixed, or at least in progress by morning. Contractual or not, car allowance requires the recipient to act in a manner in keeping with the expectations of the role.

Interesting comment above ref black vs s line springs so that’s worth further conversation...
