Hi all,

I'm currently in an Edition 30 Golf and love it, it's suited my needs for now and I have house renovations, kids nursery fees etc so I wanted something that held firm.
I am already looking ahead, and I want to spend around £20k on my next car, the R ticks all my boxes but at present they seem to be in the high 20s.

At what point realistically will a DSG Golf R Mk7.5 hit around the £20k mark and what spec should I be looking for?

Have you had an extended test drive in an R?

I ask because i know of quite a few people who prefer the GTI and find the R dull and boring by comparison.

A friend of a friend always buys a new Golf GTI every three years, could easily afford a new R each time but opts always for a GTI. Did get a new R once, hated it, got rid and bought another GTI.
I've always had hatchbacks going from a Mk6 GTD due to mileage then a Cupra 300, got a mapped edition 30 at the moment. But I feel having only two wheels powering the car is a pain in terms of traction and putting the power down. I know that 4wd can be less engaging but always fancied one.

Some 67 plate 7.5's are already at the 20k mark admittedly these all seem to be estates, as for what these are like outside of warranty if it's a concern you can always extend the manufacturer's warranty.

Why do you want the R, a simple remap will see you with nigh on the same power output, or have you considered the Cupra 300 as they're already at the 20k mark:

My edition 30 is stage 2 mapped and it's pushing 340, but it's an old car, I want virtual cockpit and generally a newer car. I wouldn't look to buy one for another 18 months anyway. By then I'm sure more options will be available, I don't like the 8.
I wanted an RS3 but it's just too much money for me
