I have a hankering for something turbocharged to run alongside my M5. Given the budget constraints, what am missing from this list?

Octavia mk1 vRS
Saab 93 Aero (2003 on)
Golf GTi
Audi A4 1.8t
Seat Leon 1.8t mk1

I feel like I am missing a lot of cars from that list.

This is only for petrol cars.

Not exactly inspired ideas, but you could add Audi A3 and TT!

I had an X-plate Leon Cupra many years ago and it went like stink - handling was a completely different matter! rolleyes
Given the low budget I aren't sure there is anything that can be inspired about them hehe

Something like the immaculate Saab 9-5 aero I have for sale would do nicely I should think.

Mitsubishi Colt CZT
Mazda 6 MPS
I wouldn't be against a 9-5 Aero manual. The MPS is probably out of budget, as it'll likely need a million jobs doing to it.

Peugeot with THP engine
Twingo GT
Forester/Impreza
Some Vauxhalls
I wouldn't mind a Forester as well. Twingo is a bit small for me, my wife has a RenaultSport 133 and it's not comfortable for me on long drives.
Not sure I'd find a decent Forester in budget though.

If you can find a Mk1 Leon Cupra within budget they go like dog doo off a shovel and have good handling, not so comfy for passengers but they are good as a drivers car, come to think of it I might see if I can pick one up myself for track
I'm too worried about their comfort laugh I have my M5 for longer distance driving, I just want something turbocharged as I really miss owning one.

Top of my list would be a black mk1 Octavia VRS.

You could always pick up an early phase 1 Megane 225 Trophy for 2k.
I'm not sure about their reliability...

Thanks all.

I have had a Noobtuned Saab 93 Aero before and it did go well. Only thing I didn't like was how st the radio is lol. I have also had a Mk1 Octavia vRS before (remapped). This is why they're on the list.

I aren't a fan of the A3 unfortunately, but thanks for the offer.

On the SAAB radio front, was the one that you had a "six button" ones if so yes they're awful but the other versions are much improved.
Yes it was - one of those that only has 4 speakers. Shocking it was.

Up to now I think it'll be a Saab 93 Aero.

When I had this exact criteria I got an Astra SRi Turbo 200. I had it three years and it was very easy and cheap to run too

I also had a Vectra V6 Special (basically a Vectra VXR Police version, so it has VXR performance bits with plain looks and interior)
I'm not sure that I could live with an Astra now, plus they're. 1.6T arent they?

2.8T more to your liking?

Haggling & a small creep gets you a VXR.

I want a manual, kind of miss having one. The Vectra looks decent but the timing chain worries me.

The VXR is a very good option the timing chain isn't a big issue (speak to VXRonline) they do it in a day, obviously do your due diligence as I know you don't want another M5 episode. smile
I don't want to be spending a grand straight after buying one, I did that with my M5 and look where that got me lol.

It's not every engine & you may not have to do it in the whole time you have it, I have a friend who has one with over 180k & on it's original chain, also I have supplied a number of Insignia VXR's which haven't had any chain issues.
I don't want the £555 a year road tax either if I can avoid it lol. I am paying that on my M5.

Would have liked to have the money (for insurance!) when those Vectra V6 specials were coming off the forces, awesome cars.

OP I have had the earlier Astra Turbo with the 2.0 Turbo engine, superchips do a re-map to 224 bhp.

I only found it because it was the cheapest manual that came under the 8 seconds to 60 filter on AutoTrader, and as it turns out it was one of the best cars I've owned.
Hmmm, could be an option I guess. I aren't in a massive rush for something, and my savings are going up regularly, so much so that I may be in F10 M5 territory with the sale of my car and then this all becomes moot!

I still favour the Saab 93 Aero at the moment, but finding a semi decent one is proving to be difficult.

I have no need for a diesel really, so would be pointless. I want an aero as they're the best looking ones and I want a manual.

Have you looked at the UK Saabs for sale section.

There's a 2008 Aero for sale for £2,000. Had stage 1 noob remap and 2.5" exhaust.

If it wasn't in Scotland then I would have bee. Interested. It'll be rusty underneath.
